About the Department
The Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education ( ECEE) is in the College of Education and Human Development at Georgia State University. ECEE is a diverse, vibrant, multi-focused, and interdisciplinary department with 33 world-class faculty of multiple scholarly disciplines. ECEE prepares early childhood and elementary education teachers, scholars, and community and school leaders with six degree programs, four endorsements, and several research and training programs. We provide learning opportunities for educators in and out of the classroom, ensuring that cutting-edge research, the latest technologies, and innovative teaching inform our programs. Our faculty is dedicated to serving children and families from all backgrounds, abilities, genders, races, and ethnicities.
Position Description
The faculty member is expected to maintain a balanced research, scholarship, teaching, and service portfolio. Primary scholarly responsibilities include maintaining a productive research agenda, including publications of research and scholarly work, seeking external funding for research and/or training, participating in professional organizations, and disseminating research at conferences. Teaching responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to the mathematics education of elementary students and others based on expertise. Currently, the department offers a five-course K-5 Mathematics Endorsement program for practicing elementary teachers and a three-course sequence of undergraduate mathematics methods courses for prospective teachers. Some teaching could be conducted at local partner school sites. Additional responsibilities include mentoring graduate students, supervising students' field experiences, serving on departmental, college, and university committees, and service to the professional community. A range of research methodological expertise is valued. Required Experience
Required Education
Earned doctorate in mathematics education or closely related field at the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
* Three years of professional experience with K-12 students, preferably in urban contexts
* Experience teaching mathematics education courses in a university setting is beneficial
* Demonstrated research through publications and presentations are preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Strong evidence of developing a research agenda and potential for attracting externally funded research and scholarly activities
* Expertise in standards-based mathematics pedagogy and content
* Scholarly focus on early childhood and elementary mathematics education
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc
