Hours

Typical Schedule is: Monday - Friday from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM for Afterschool. Homeschool schedule is 10:00am. to 3:00 pm. on Wednesday only. (Must be able to work some holidays as needed, hours of operation may vary.)

Job Summary

The purpose of the Afterschool Program Counselor is to be the face of the Kroc Center to the youth of the community and to the parents of the youth. The Afterschool Program Counselor will be a trustworthy conduit through which parents and youth can connect to the center. They will connect and lead the youth in the afterschool programs at the Kroc Center while helping to create and implement new daily programming based on their skill set and fulfill the vision of the Kroc Center. The Afterschool Program Counselor will collaborate with Fine Arts and Education Manager on a daily bases to help see through the vision of the afterschool program.

  3. Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
  4. Assist in facilitating all daily camp activities.



  1. Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  2. Use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
  3. Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants or staff. Follow up with completion of appropriate paperwork as directed.



  1. Ensure that parents and youth alike view the Kroc Center as a safe area for youth and a place to turn in time of need.
  2. Serve as a positive role model for the youth of the community.
  3. Display integrity, enthusiasm and sound moral judgment.

  1. Expectations



  1. Keep current on all Territorial policies, requirements and regulations regarding the key areas of responsibility.
  2. Follow all Safe from Harm policies and procedures.
  3. Practice vigilant supervision at all times.
  4. Work in a cooperative manner with the other on-site managers and coordinators of the RJKCCC campus.
  5. Interface respectfully with peers, supervisors and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds. Handle disputes with participants, parents, staff and children in a professional manner.
  6. Attend all scheduled staff meetings when required.
  7. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  8. Adhere to dress code at all times.
  9. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.




  • Qualifications



  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and be able to obtain a valid chauffeurs license within 60 days of employment.
  2. Have at least one year of successful experience working with youth.
  3. Strong desire and ability to work with children and parents.
  4. Ability and confidence to assist in teaching a variety of activities.
  5. Must have the ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with customers, clients, members and staff.
  6. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  7. Thrive in a team oriented environment. Be a team player.
  8. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality as needed.
  9. Preferred CPR/First Aid/AED/BBP certification at time of hire: (or ability to be certified within 30 days)
  10. Must have a positive attitude toward work, helping others and caring for children.
  11. Ability to pass a child safety background clearance.
  12. Bilingual language skills desirable.
  13. Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance.
  14. Must be able to carry up to 25 lbs.
  15. Must be in excellent physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the Afterschool Program.
  16. Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.
  17. Must be able to bend, squat, twist, and stand as these movements are a regular requirement of this position.
  18. Must be prepared to handle chemicals in a safe and appropriate manner as outlined by OSHA and MSDS standards.
