Position Description: Introduction:

The Iowa Reading Research Center in the College of Education has an open Postdoctoral Scholar position in the areas of reading and/or writing disabilities, literacy instruction, and teacher professional development. This scholar will conduct research and will support ongoing projects in PreK-12 schools. In addition, they will help coordinate efforts to evaluate summer reading initiatives across the state.



Details:

This scholar will assist with all major evaluation activities related to funded projects, including collaboration and coordination with school sites and key personnel; coordinating with school partners; conducting training; data analysis and interpretation; writing reports; and disseminating findings.

Appointment: 2-year fiscal year appointment, set to start immediately upon hire until June 30, 2027.



About the Iowa Reading Research Center:

The purpose of the Iowa Reading Research Center is to improve the literacy proficiency of pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade students.IRRC's work is done in four main categories: Research:Conductingresearchin practical settingsto evaluate the effectiveness of literacy practices and the usefulness of assessments for guiding literacy instruction. Professional Learning:Facilitatingprofessional learningfor educators on literacy instructional strategies and related topics online througheLearningand in-person at workshops and conferences. Technical Assistance:Collaborating with local education agencies to providetechnicalassistanceinvolving planning and implementation to address a specific literacy issue.Family Resources:Offeringfamily resourcesto help family members and caregivers take an active role in their children's literacy skill development; assisting families affected by a reading disability through assistive technology consultation and eLearning.All efforts of the Iowa Reading Research Center are conducted in collaboration with educators, parents, community representatives, and policymakers. Results have a direct application to literacy policy and education in Iowa.

Education Requirement: Education Requirements:

A PhD in Education, Literacy, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, School Psychology, Communications Sciences and Disorders, or a related field.

Required Qualifications: Required Qualifications:



  • Three years of teaching experience in PreK-12 schools
  • Relevant experience in scholarship and research in reading and/or writing disabilities, literacy instruction, and professional development
  • Experience with project management and field supervision of pre-service and/or in- service teachers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Desirable Qualifications: Desired Qualifications:



  • Experience writing and obtaining external funding
  • Prior teaching experience at an Institute of Higher Education
  • Data analysis with observational and fidelity monitoring
