Job Description: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now hiring a Financial Aid Counselor at the Daytona Beach campus. This position provides counseling services to students and parents regarding the application process for obtaining federal, state, private, and institutional sources of financial assistance. This position requires that counseling be performed in a variety of mediums -- in person, telephone, and by e-mail. The Financial Aid Counselor will be responsible for overseeing student eligibility for aid under various programs and regulations. This includes verifying the accuracy of information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), certifying eligibility, and processing funds for both federal and private loan programs.

Additionally, the counselor will assist students in identifying all potential sources of financial aid to support their continued enrollment at the University. The role also involves communicating with students regarding any issues or conditions that could negatively impact their eligibility for financial assistance. The Financial Aid Counselor will work in a professional and congenial manner within the Financial Aid Office, within the University and in representing Embry-Riddle externally.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Advising applicants and their families regarding the financial assistance process and how it relates to other functions of the university
  • Evaluating the eligibility of applicants for financial assistance funds
  • Processing Federal Stafford/PLUS loan programs and private loan programs for students and families
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math
  • 1-3 years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior financial aid work experience

Required skills, Knowledge, abilities:

  • Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of information systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite and Internet end-user applications.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial aid processing and eligibility requirements
  • Experience with automated files management, tracking, and letter generating computer programs.
  • Excellent organization skills
