JOB DESCRIPTION

USC Athletics is looking to hire an Academic Advisor for Football and Women's Crew (Student Services Advisor II). Reporting to the Director ofAcademic Advising, this position will provide academic advising, planning and other support for assigned football and women's crew student-athletes in areas of course selection, registration procedures, degree requirements, and career goals. Successful candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and extensive knowledge and application of NCAA rules and related academic tracking technology(i.e. Teamworks, DARS).This individual will also be required to maintain detailed student progress records, communicate regularly with supervisors and appropriate football and women's crew staff, and have the ability to work autonomously while maintaining cooperative working relationships. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communications skills are required. Excellent interpersonal skills are a necessity. Candidates will be part of the Football Advising Team.

This is a non-exempt (hourly) position that may require some overtime including evening and/or weekend hours.

Roles and responsibilities to include:

  • Attends regular advising staff meetings and in-person student appointments between 8am-5pm on weekdays.

  • Provides academic counseling for undergraduate and graduate student athletes, advising on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, and graduation counseling and clearance. Monitors student progress.

  • Evaluates student problems, academic, administrative or personal, and refers student to appropriate student services office for additional counseling. Liaises with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.

  • Maintains academic unit student records and coordinates registration activities, degree progress, enrollment and degree verification, and transcripts with the USC Office of Academic Records and Registrar. Assists with Petition applications, resumes, and letters of recommendation. Interfaces with faculty, administrators and students regarding grading policies, academic progress, and student promotability.

  • Member of the Football Advising Team and other committees at the department, school, college, or university level which deal in student services issues. Provides administrative support for local committees and works on committee-assigned projects.

  • Maintains currency with NCAA policies and regulations, as well as policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to admissions, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, petitions, and other student services.

  • Sport assignments are subject to change depending on departmental needs.

  • Promotes an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and have 3 years of experience in department advising or student services experience (5 years of experience as an academic counselor/ advisor and demonstrated successful experience applying learning strategies for at-risk student-athletes at the Division I level preferred).

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, with a proficiency in Bylaw 14.

  • Experience with Football advising preferred.

Hourly Range:

The hourly rate range for this position is $33.34 - $36.06.
