DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship offers a fascinating opportunity to receive a rounded curatorial experience at Old Economy Village. The main project will be to photograph, organize, and re-shelve artifacts under the guidance of the curator as part of a large collection move. The intern will update the inventory in Argus, the PHMC's artifact collection database.

Secondary projects include cataloging, accessioning, and deaccessioning artifacts; inventorying, organizing, and digitizing archival documents, developing archival finding aids, uploading documents to Islandora (the site's archival database); and digital and/or in-person exhibit work, including research, writing, and image sourcing with copyright investigation. These items are on an as-needed basis for the historic site in concert with the intern's educational goals.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a 10-week internship, running between May 2025 through August 2025, totaling approximately 225-300 hours.
  • Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between selected interns and their supervisor.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • All applicants must be enrolled at a college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program, at the time of their internship.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able and willing to report to Ambridge, Pennsylvania during the Summer Keystone Internship dates, which will be a 10-week period between May 12, 2025 and August 22, 2025.
  • You must be majoring, minoring, or in a graduate program in one of the following fields of study: History, Public History, Museum Studies, or a similar field.
  • You must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at the time of the internship.
  • Work, academic, or volunteer experience you have had that has prepared you for this internship.
  • An understanding of how this internship will help you meet your academic and/or career goals.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
