Department Overview
Telecommunications is part of the ITCS (Information Technology Client Services) department. ITCS provides technical support for telecommunications (voice, mobile, AV) and desktop computing at UCOP. ITCS also operates an IT Help Desk to provide first-level support to end-users and to assign second-level support via a ticketing system. ITCS has an engineering group and an IT asset group to provide back-end support for the ITCS functions.

Position Summary
Applies advanced concepts and expertise to lead, coordinate and support AV IT services of varying complexity used for conferencing, digital signage and workspace booking. Develops, documents, and implements processes, solutions and work flow for the unit or services to include architecture, operating practices and training/instruction guides and knowledge articles. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional to design, deploy, service, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and configure AV technologies and services. Communicates with high-level clients on events of most significance in terms of visibility and impact.

Key Responsibilities

35% Assists with the development, documentation, training, and implementation of policy, processes and work flow of AV services. Maintains accurate asset management and maintenance records for all AV technology managed by the unit. Reinforces standards, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent service delivery to clients. Oversees standards and development of online support, user documentation and / or user requirements. Develops AV instructional resources and plans and conducts user training. Coordinates with leadership and the UCOP user community to align instructional resources with their needs. Develops and maintains accurate record of AV solution topologies and configurations.

35% Provides Operational support and technical expertise for maintenance of AV systems and services for conferencing, digital signage and workspace booking. Assists with complex AV events and most sensitive clients. Acts as principal resource for AV technology set-up, management and remediation of equipment failures. Performs assessment, maintenance, independent troubleshooting, repair and configuration of shared AV technology devices and services. Leads the installation or modification of new or existing AV systems/services and ensures the security of these systems/services with applicable configuration and updates. Develops and enacts preventative maintenance practices. Assists users with AV issues as needed. Performs administrator duties for Zoom, EMS and Korbyt platforms.

15% Establishes and maintains effective business relationships with external vendors and the UCOP user community. Provide direction to vendors and oversee their work as needed to assure expected results are achieved. Assess and manage vendor relationships to assure best value, performance, qualifications and alignment with UCOP business needs. Continually assess AV environment to assure optimal performance and to affirm effective alignment with business needs and user expectations. Effectively manage purchase, payment and spending for AV systems and services.

15% Performs highly complex assessments of business requirements for AV technology and recommends/advises on appropriate AV technology solutions. Assesses current or emerging AV technology and advises on its appropriate use for conferencing, digital signage, workspace booking. Fully assesses technical, financial and operational dichotomies of AV solutions and provide recommendations. Provides input to strategic planning for the Department. Develops requirements, specific technical needs, architecture and designs for AV solutions and services. Leads planning and implementation of new or updated AV solutions and services. Acts as primary resource and SME for AV technology solutions.

Experience

  • Min 5 years of relevant work experience providing audio/visual technical support.

  • Advanced understanding of AV systems and services and ability to use this information to identify viable solutions and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Ability to assess institutional needs for AV technology products and design services to meet those needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • High degree of knowledge of audio, video, computer, media, and networking technology.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced skills to develop technical solutions to meet complex user requirements.
  • Excellent project management organizational and communication skills.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
