Job Summary:

The Child Development Lab (CDL) is a relationship-based program that values and prioritizes the development of caring, trusting, and respectful relationships with young children and their families. As an Early Childhood Teacher, you will play a key role in fostering a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment for children, working closely with children, families, college students, and researchers. This role requires collaboration with other CDL staff to support the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth of each child.

This position requires a proactive and physically engaged approach to caregiving and teaching, ensuring a dynamic and responsive learning environment for children and college students.

This position requires the ability to sit on floor and get up and down with ease; run, jump and climb hills and step stools; reach overhead to retrieve items on shelves above shoulder level; to lift at least 35 pounds and carry this weight across a classroom; engage in vigorous outdoor and large motor play for at least 45 minutes; push/pull at least four children in a stroller, wagon and evacuation crib; walk up and down stairs; move/push classroom furniture as needed; perform physical tasks within a time frame commensurate with needs of fast-paced classroom. This position also requires active participation in outdoor activities with the children daily in all types of weather.

Some nights and weekends may be required for staff to attend professional development trainings and or other CDL community-wide events.


Responsibilities:
Prepares classroom lessons, facilitates classroom programs, and assesses student progress to ensure safety and foster an environment of learning and development in accordance with established curriculum. Interacts regularly with parents and trains new teachers and students.

  • 25% Plans and facilitates classroom programming and schedules daily classroom activities for an early childhood education facility according to established curriculums
  • 30% Maintains the safety and physical well-being of children in a designated classroom
  • 20% Evaluates individualized and developmental educational plans for children in collaboration with other stakeholders, as needed
  • 15% Maintains and documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations
  • 10% Mentors new teachers and students

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or a related field.


Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
- Training in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- Specialized infant toddler training such as the Infant Toddler Credential.
- Two or more years of experience working within an ece team-teaching setting.
- Experience adapting teaching methods to a child's individual needs, including children with special needs.
- Experience with play-based inquiry curriculum and or Creative Curriculum.
- Experience using positive guidance practices such as from Pyramid Model and or Conscious Discipline.
- Experience communicating with families about children's development and behavior.
- Minimum of 10 hours of infant toddler fundamental training approved by Department of Children and Families in State of Wisconsin.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The Child Development Lab is open 7:30AM - 5:30PM Monday - Friday. Hours will vary within this time dependent upon staff needs of the program.

The starting annual base salary for this position is listed as $45,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

The Child Development Lab (CDL) is an early care and education program for young children 0- 5 years of age that also provides a teaching and research laboratory setting for university students, faculty and staff. The CDL is State-Licensed, City of Madison-accredited, and nationally accredited by NECPA and is in a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility on the beautiful UW-Madison campus. The CDL is licensed for 75 children and offers year-round programming. The CDL's tripartite mission is: (1) to provide UW students with carefully supervised training opportunities associated with their course of study; (2) to provide a population and a setting in which UW faculty and students can conduct research on issues related to child development, early learning and families; and (3) to engage in outreach activities, such as hosting visiting professionals and scholars, serving on committees, collaborating with other teachers in the community and helping to engage in community service projects. The Child Development Lab has provided excellence in early childhood education, research, and teacher training for infants since 1999, and toddlers and preschoolers since its inception in 1926. The CDL is the first preschool laboratory of its kind in Wisconsin, and it was the first laboratory school in the nation to receive accreditation by the
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in the 1980s.
