The Accounting Clerk reports to the Senior Accountant and is responsible for ensuring accurate transaction recording and reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, standards and practices for higher education. Primary area of responsibility is trade accounts receivable. This position also provides assistance to the University Accounting team, Associate Controller, and Controller as needed. 1.Process accounting journals and cross charges from University departments. 2. Prepare and process trade accounts receivable, reconcile invoices and identify discrepancies against payments; follow up on past due accounts with customers; respond to customer inquiries. 3. Assist with month-end and fiscal year-end closings; contribute to the closing process, including accounting journals, accruals and reconciliations. 4. Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts; prepare correcting accounting journals as necessary. 5. Process desktop deposits for specific check payments received by University Accounting. 6. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsRequired Education: Associate's degree or completion of program of 18+ months after high school. Area of study: accounting/bookkeeping/treasury/finance or related field Accounting certificate preferred Required skills, knowledge, abilities: Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Knowledge of University accounting procedures, U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, as well as the application of an ERP application to accounting operations. Account balancing skills. Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Workday, Microsoft Suite, Outlook/email, and internet end-user applications.
