Overview

Participates in the summer internship program. The summer internship program teaches participants about Selective's business and provides training in the skills and knowledge necessary to work within an assigned work team. The program includes an orientation; on-the-job assignments; special projects and assignments; meeting attendance; and the development of customer, vendor and business partner relationships. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities

  • Learn about Selective's history, mission and operations.
  • Acquire and apply the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve business goals related (but not limited) to 1) Compile daily cash balances and perform cash forecasting, 2) Assist in upload of any daily/monthly journal entries to the general ledger, 3) Prepare monthly cash analysis, 4) Maintain Sarbanes Oxley documentation and perform test-work, 5) Evaluate
  • Cultivate strong customer relationships and respond promptly to customer requests.
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships in order to achieve business goals.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and commitment to achieving business goals.
  • Convey facts and information effectively in both verbal and written communications.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements
  • Must be a self-starter, able to take direction and follow instructions. Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and perform under pressure. Must have the ability to multi-task successfully. Must have proficient PC skills specifically Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Candidates should be working towards an applicable degree, for the internship they are interested, in their field of study preferred. Relevant classroom experience in Accounting, Actuary, Audit, Bonds, Claims, Finance, Information Technology, Marketing and/or Underwriting preferred. Presentation skills and attention to detail a plus. Desire to work for Selective Insurance after graduation preferred.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma required. Ideal internship candidates will be full-time undergraduate college Juniors or Seniors, with the ability to perform at a professional level.
