Job Description

Summary

Plans, organizes, directs, supervises, and runs the daily operations for the Wedge Coat Department and ensures timely performance and completions. Responsible for overall safety and environmental compliance, efficiency, and profitability of the department. Collaboratively works with other supervisors in the facility to ensure delivery of quality products with superior service levels.

Department Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Proactively promotes, in words and actions, The McWane Way principles.
  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members.
  • Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Manages environmental waste and ensures all waste is properly disposed of.
  • Gives attention to required materials to ensure adequate materials are on hand to operate the department.
  • Implements and understands customer specifications and coordinates production that meets these specifications.
  • Reviews departmental requirements (production schedule, work orders etc.), communicates daily assignments with team members to ensure activities are conducted and completed within established time parameters.
  • Supports quality standards and directs programs to assure these quality standards are attained.
  • Confers with external vendors to evaluate their products and equipment to ensure maximum productivity is achieved.
  • Conducts the morning safety huddle meetings (Safety/EHS, quality issues that came up the previous day, Safety/EHS concerns departmentally or plant wide, any product needs or items needed to complete day to day activities)
  • Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
  • Maintains or directs maintenance of production and inventory control records.
  • Understands the Emergency Response Plan and what to do in the event of an emergency for evacuation.

Supervisory (Leadership) Responsibilities ~ Directly supervises 15-30 team members

  • Builds a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and teamwork within the department.
  • Demonstrates an ability to inspire, motivate, and influence team.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees.
  • Proactively addresses employees' potential issues (works to quickly resolve any complaints or concerns) and adequately responds to suggestions and questions.
  • Creates and supports activities designed to enhance employee morale.
  • Interprets company policies for the team.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Degree (or equivalent) required
  • Four years' supervisory experience in an industrial manufacturing setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of Desma injection molding a plus
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills preferred.
  • Solid computer experience including proficiency with Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint required; experience in Microsoft D365 preferred.
  • Knowledge of Machining processes a plus

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract and to multiply and divide. Uses mathematics to solve problems.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
