Role Description & Responsibilities

The SIMULIA Plastics R&D team is excited to announce the availability of a hybrid internship opportunity available in our Johnston, RI office!

SIMULIA is the Dassault Systemes brand providing realistic multiphysics simulation, design exploration, and optimization capabilities for designers, engineers and researchers to virtually test, improve and validate their innovations for performance, safety, and consumer experiences while reducing cost and time to market.

This is a paid internship spanning 6-months in 2025. This position is based at the Dassault Systemes Office at 1301 Atwood Ave in Johnston, RI. The selected candidate is expected to be present at least 3 days a week on-site for the full duration of the co-op.

You will be part of the SIMULIA Plastics R&D team, which is responsible for developing plastics injection molding simulation tools to enable our customers to manufacture high-quality parts with minimal defects and wasted material. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Plastics Intern to support the following activities:



  • Support the Plastics R&D Team in evaluating existing workflows and developing new industrially relevant injection molding part and mold processes for multiple industries.
  • Perform validation and verification of canonical cases to assist R&D teams in improving and enhancing solvers for plastics injection molding applications.
  • Develop and document best practices for industrial workflows.
  • Create new plastics part and mold design examples using 3DEXPERIENCE design and simulation tools.
  • Explore opportunities to integrate machine learning into workflows, provided the candidate possesses the necessary skills and interest.
  • Collaborate on publishing technical papers at internationally renowned conferences.

Qualifications

  • A rising senior actively enrolled in a bachelor's degree program or a graduate student pursuing a master's degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering (or similar engineering domains) for the duration of the internship.
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling, SOLIDWORKS preferred
  • Plastics domain expertise preferred
  • Knowledge of optimization techniques is a plus
  • Open-minded, self-starting, fast-learner
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently

Compensation for the role will be commensurate with experience. The expected compensation range will be between $25.00 and $40.00 per hour, with a cap of 40-hours per week.
