Reporting to the Chief Hospital Executive, the Vice President, Clinical Operations - OUMC is the administrative leader for a number of clinical operations functions of the medical center including, but not necessarily limited to, Inpatient Pharmacy, Imaging Services, Laboratory, Ambulatory Pharmacy, Wound Care, Sleep Center, Covid Vaccine Center, HIM, and other clinical departments. The Vice President oversees programmatic growth and development with appropriate leaders across Hackensack Meridian Health. Functions as the coordinator of all administrative operations and fiscal responsibilities providing solutions, leadership, and administration of staff, etc., and assuring the Departments are kept in compliance with all regulatory requirements. Responsible for achieving high patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. Enhances quality through strong performance improvement programs. Maintains current knowledge of the hospital departments under direction, trends in healthcare, and standards of care. Provides an optimum environment for health enhancement and staff development within areas of oversight. Ensures management and team members have the skills and training to perform within acceptable guidelines and expectations. Directs the analysis and clinical quality review for clinical departments in alignment with the medical center and departmental organizational goals.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Vice President, Clinical Operations - OUMC at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Strategizes opportunities for business growth and development in Pharmacy, Laboratory, Wound Care, Sleep Center, and Imaging Services. Identifies trends in the market for new clinical services. Develops business models, policies, and procedures, along with capital investments to implement business improvements.
  • Collaborates with Physicians/Providers and other members of the healthcare team to ensure
    excellence in patient care in Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Imaging Services. Develops a rapport and mutual respect with the patient/caregiver and team members to foster an optimum environment.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with key constituents, including community, employed and independent physicians, team members, and board members through open collaboration and consistent communication. Creates a greater sense of "systemness" throughout the hospital.
  • Works closely with department leadership to ensure appropriate clinical practice activities of each department assigned are being delivered to patients within the established standards of care. Ensure patient care is provided in a safe and caring environment while also providing an ideal patient experience.
  • Ensures that Hackensack Meridian Health established programs and clinical standards for Laboratory, Pharmacy, Wound Care, Sleep Center, and Imaging Services meet the highest standards for safety and high reliability.
  • Exhibits leadership and fosters a commitment to continuous quality improvement whereby decision- making is driven by data and patient/guest relationships. Works with hospital and organizational leadership and team members to foster high reliability thinking with sensitivity to operations, a preoccupation with failure, deference to expertise, resilience, and a reluctance to simplify the complexity of the system.
  • Develops and fosters effective collaboration between clinical departments, matrixed service lines, employed and independent physicians, and other affiliated services both within and outside the hospital to ensure a wholly integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the hospital's strategic initiatives.
  • Monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities were needed in response to changing financial situations.
  • Administers the effective allocation of capital and human resources, determination and control of appropriate staffing mix and levels, and management of productivity within departments. Seeks out fiscal efficiencies wherever possible.
  • Mentors managers, directors, and other department leaders in effectively dealing with scheduling problems assist the management team in developing and applying leadership skills.
  • Disciplines, counsels, and settles grievances and both recommends and participates in
    hire/discharge/transfer of personnel.
  • Oversees the effective allocation of expense resources within the departments that this individual oversees.
  • Communicates and acts as a role model of the network mission, vision, and values in accordance with our high-reliability culture.
  • Develops a cohesive management team that will successfully build a record of accomplishment, openness, mutual support, and overall operational and financial excellence.
  • Promotes teamwork and professional growth in departments, encouraging creativity, accountability, and optimization of all available skills to achieve the highest level of quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Master's degree in health administration, business administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 or more years of experience in management/leadership in hospital operations.
  • Excellent communication, delegation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Management skills to include competency in the budget, human resource management, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse consumer population and all levels of a complex organization.
  • Established analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Capacity to collaborate with diverse populations of team members and physicians to gain consensus and achieve results.
  • Proven writing, public speaking, and presentation skills
  • Established coaching skills that inspire team members, leaders, and physicians to execute and comply with network strategies.
  • Proven competence in Microsoft Office Programs and Google Suite: Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, and PowerPoint/Slides.
