The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and The Department of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level. Successful candidates will have completed a Congenital Heart Surgery Fellowship and be able to perform all aspects of Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery.

The Heart Center and Congenital Heart Surgery program at Lurie Children's Hospital currently includes three Cardiovascular Thoracic surgeons, five physician assistants, and a dedicated Cardiac Anesthesia team. Our surgeons perform over 400 cases per year, including a high-volume VAD and Heart Transplant program.

The ideal candidate would have outstanding technical skills, a passion for clinical excellence and importantly, the ability to work collaboratively within the Heart Center's world-class multidisciplinary team. Additional qualities include:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and maturity and superb emotional intelligence
  • Strong surgical dexterity and a willingness to learn new procedures
  • Self-motivated to develop his/her own practice and referral pool
  • Team player

Qualified candidates will have an M.D. or D.O. and be eligible for an Illinois medical license. Qualifications include Board Certification/Board Eligibility in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

The start date is negotiable, and the position will remain open until filled.

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is ranked among the nation's top children's hospitals. Our Heart Center includes over 60 attending cardiologists, twelve categorical cardiology fellows, 6 advanced cardiology fellows (CICU, Imaging, Cath, EP, Heart Failure/Transplantation), three pediatric cardio-thoracic surgeons, an accredited congenital heart surgery fellowship program, and a dedicated cardiac anesthesia service with an accredited cardiac anesthesia fellowship program. Our cardiac surgeons perform over 400 cardiac operations per year and achieve outcomes that rank among the best in the nation (STS-CHS Database). We also have one of the highest volume heart transplant programs in the country and a busy mechanical cardiac support program (VAD, ECMO & E-CPR). Our cardiac program is the largest in Illinois and provides expertise in echocardiography, cardiac MRI/CT, electrophysiology, interventional cardiac catheterization, heart failure/transplant, fetal cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, cardiac critical care and preventative and rehabilitative cardiology. Cardiac intensive care services are provided in the state-of-the-art 44-bed Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit.
