POSITION OVERVIEW The Chief Health Equity Officer (CHEO) will lead efforts to advance health equity across Johns Hopkins Medicine. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to eliminate health disparities, improve patient outcomes for underserved populations, and foster an inclusive environment for both patients and employees. The CHEO will collaborate across clinical, administrative, and community outreach teams to ensure that equity is a core and fully integrated priority in all health services provided by JHM, including our efforts to improve quality, safety and patient experience. The CHEO work to position JHM as a national leader on equitable care delivery, advancing the research base, and policy advocacy. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The VP Chief Health Equity Officer reports directly to the JHM Senior Vice President of Patient Safety & Quality. collaborates and is accountable to the JHM CEO/ Dean of School of Medicine and President JHHS, Executive Vice President, JHM to achieve a comprehensive health equity agenda for the enterprise. In addition, collaborates with: VP Safety and Quality, VP Diversity and Inclusion, VP Population Health, Physician in Chief/vice dean for clinical affairs, Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Health Equity Strategy Development: Design and implement a comprehensive health equity plan to address disparities in care outcomes, access to services, and social determinants of health within the enterprise.
- Community Engagement and Advocacy: Work with community leaders and stakeholders to ensure the voices and needs of underserved populations are heard and addressed.
- Leadership and Collaboration: Serve as a senior advisor on equity issues and collaborate with various departments (e.g., clinical, human resources, research) to integrate health equity into organizational priorities.
- Data and Performance Analysis: Develop metrics and analyze data on patient outcomes and community health trends to identify inequities and to drive continuous improvement and report on progress.
- Policy and Program Development: Advise on the development of policies and programs aimed at improving access to care and health outcomes for marginalized communities.
- Cultural Competency: Lead initiatives to enhance the cultural competency of the workforce through training programs and greater transparency on areas needing improvement.
- Research and Innovation: Promote and participate in health equity research initiatives to identify best practices and innovative solutions for reducing health disparities in healthcare delivery at a local & national level
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- MD, DO, PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a related health field preferred.
- Minimum of 7- 10 years of experience in health equity, public health, or healthcare administration, preferred
- Proven experience in developing and leading health equity initiatives in a healthcare setting.
- Experience in an academic medical center or health system preferred
- Research experience in health disparities or population health preferred
- Strong understanding of healthcare systems, social determinants of health, and community health needs.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and community partners.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, culturally competent environment.
- Possess experience with data collection/analyses and research methods, as well as a track record working with faculty, academic, and administrative leaders is crucial.
- Proven abilities to collaborate and work successfully with multiple constituents in the delivery and coordination of programs and initiatives.
- Must have a high degree of cultural intelligence and technical mastery of strategy in academic medicine or related industry
- Ability to successfully navigate the hierarchy, tradition, competitiveness, and at times, the exclusionary culture of academic medicine.
