Summary: The incumbent plays an essential role in the company's Division Technical operations group. Provides technical expertise to Asset Operating Teams to keep plants, pipeline and compressor station equipment, liquid pump stations and pipelines safe, available, and efficient. Works with division technical team members to insure operations and maintenance activities are consistent across Area boundaries within the division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:



  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Process Control Systems for reciprocating, electric and turbine natural gas compressor units.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Process Control Systems for electric motors with variable frequency drive crude oil pumps.
  • Primary technical areas include controls and automation, engine/compressor, EMD/pump, pneumatic, electrical and electronic systems.
  • Responsible for the scoping, development, equipment specifications and execution of O&M and Capital projects.
  • Provide expert level assistance with PLC, process control commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Provide expert level assistance with Motors, Power Systems and Medium Voltage Switch Gear.
  • Assist areas with installation, operations, evaluation, design and repair of HMI, control, monitoring and analyzing equipment.
  • Work with Engineering and Construction to assure effective design, installation, start-up and operation of electrical and control systems.
  • Audit facilities to ensure compliance with Company standards, policies and practices, and governmental and industry codes.
  • Oversee the planning of and provide Controls, Electronics & Instrumentation discipline training.
  • Investigate, analyze, and make recommendations related to effectiveness and/or efficiency of presently installed and proposed equipment.
  • Maintain Data Acquisition systems and related computer equipment and implement required software modifications.
  • Assist locations with scoping, procuring, installing commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting Emergency Shutdown and Stationary Fire & Gas Systems



Required Education:


  • Minimum High school diploma or GED
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience


Required Qualifications:



  • Possess knowledge and background to be SME for instrumentation & electrical control systems.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent human relations skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Company procedures and Industry-related standards, codes and practices, and applicable Federal and State regulations.
  • Experience in executing and administering Company-wide programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Job duties require considerable analytical ability.
  • Incumbent works in an environment requiring resolution of complex problems in stressful situations.
  • The specialist is required to continually upgrade his/her technical training and knowledge of Company standards, policies and governmental and industry codes.
  • Must have a good operating knowledge of the following PLC's: Allen Bradley RSLOGIX5000 & RSLink; Siemens 505, 545, & S7; CTI 2500 SERIES; and GE.
  • Must have a good operating knowledge of the following HMI programs: Wonderware, Factorytalk, Workshop, Lookout, View SE & ME, and Parker CTC.
  • Incumbent must be able to handle rapidly shifting priorities and multiple projects concurrently.
  • Work in a functional team with peers geographically dispersed across the Division.
  • Interface with management and field personnel to ensure uniformity and consistency across Division.
  • High level of ability to utilize computers within a network to include loading & setup of Process Control related software.
  • Knowledgeable with Natural Gas Operating Procedures, Engineering Standards, OSHA and Safety practices.
  • Personal skills necessary to maintain a good rapport with internal and external customers.
  • Mechanical skills required with multi-skilled background preferred.
  • Work locations include onshore, & offshore natural gas compressor stations and onshore crude oil pump stations.
  • Have or be able to obtain TWIC card.

  1. Frequent exposure to heat, cold, and other adverse weather conditions
  2. Working conditions may include confined spaces
  3. Repetitively standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching over shoulder height, and climbing ladders up to 25 feet. Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
  4. Work in and around industrial and construction settings, which may include hazardous products, processes, materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and may require appropriate personal protective equipment
  5. Reliable attendance at work
  6. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
