Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year full-time experience with pre or post grants management and/or financial analysis. Accounting experience in one of the following industries: Academia, Healthcare, and/or Research. Experience with budgeting. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in reviewing and negotiating research grants/budgets, contracts and cooperative agreements from federal and non-governmental sponsors. Experience working with RF/SUNY policies and procedures. Experience working with RF Report Center, myResearch, eCommons, and/or Advarra's EVAL system. Experience with Stony Brook University administrative processes with the Office of Grants Management and Stony Brook Foundation.
Brief description of duties: The Grants Coordinator will provide administrative and technical support to both the Grants Management and to faculty and staff seeking external funding for research, public service, and sponsored institutional projects. The incumbent must be able to work with a team, as well as to work independently. The incumbent must have the ability to handle multiple assignments in a deadline-driven, complex work environment. The incumbent must have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and strong writing skills.
Duties:
- Works with Grants Manager Associate to advise principal investigators in preparing proposals based upon sponsor guidelines and university policies.
- Works with and advises principal investigators in all aspects of pre-award activity, including resolving complex sponsored program issues including budget development and contracting issues, and processing of internal paperwork.
- Assists Grants Manager Associate to create MyResearch funding proposals, ASSIST applications and other federal grant submissions applications. Assists with the electronic submission and review of new, competing and non-competing grant applications.
- Keeps abreast of NIH policies and procedures as they relate to the Departmental research programs and reports updates to Grants Manager Associate.
- Trains on related grant applications
- Works with the Grants Manager Associate on the collection of relevant data for the SBCC's NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) for National Cancer Institute Designation. This involves working with the NIH Reporter system, the SUNY RF Report Center and working to update and maintain the grants and publications database (Advarra's EVAL system).
- Contributes to management of and tracks the SBCC pilot programs and miscellaneous SBCC funding opportunities.
- Responsible for the organization of all the Cancer Center Research Program(s) monthly meetings.
- Contributes to maintaining up to date SBCC Research Member lists
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
