Schedule: 40 Hours, Days, Full Time, Benefit Eligible

Position Summary:

Abstracts and assign diagnoses and procedure codes for the medical records of discharged patients, including inpatients, day surgery, observation, and outpatient records using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 classification systems and 3M encoder software for Grouper determination. Conducts data quality reviews, and serves as trainer for other coding staff. Demonstrates a good understanding of MS-DRG and APC assignment and reimbursement. Assists in reconciling coding and billing issues. Supports and exemplifies the hospital established AEC Values and Standards of Behavior.

Requirements:



  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, must be a graduate of an AHIMA accredited program with completion of the CCS/RHIT/RHIA programs, including the successful completion of the registration exam

  • Experience: Minimum 1-3 years of coding experience in an acute care hospital preferred
  • HIPAA proficiency for fast paced correspondence desk.
  • Excellent customer service skills a must.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal statutes regarding release of information, as evidenced by accurate and appropriate response.
  • Pulls and sends requested information following established guidelines for release of information and responds to urgent request for medical information received via fax in a timely manner.
