Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Controller to join our team and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring the financial health of the organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed asset management, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. The Controller will provide leadership to accounting staff, collaborate with other departments, and assist with audits, tax filings, and financial reporting. The Controller role will work onsite at the East Houston, TX location.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Hands-on leadership in the preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate external document submissions and filings.
  • Coordinate tax reporting and work with external accountants to file all necessary federal, state, payroll, and other tax returns.
  • Coordinate the annual audit, ensuring compliance with GAAP and government regulations.
  • Provide financial reports and analyses to the Chief Financial Officer as required.
  • Implement and update accounting systems, including general ledger, fixed asset management, and expense management.
  • Maintain internal control systems and ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulations.
  • Advise department leaders on accounting entries, reports, and financial analyses.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including IT, to implement efficient systems and software.
  • Manage fixed assets, capital expenditures, and inventory control.
  • Provide leadership to accounting personnel, including setting objectives, delegating tasks, and facilitating communication.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions as needed.



Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of high-level accounting experience.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Proven experience in a Controller or Senior Accountant position.
  • Experience managing monthly financials and leading a team.
  • Experience with Oracle Netsuite or a similar ERP system is required.



Certifications and Licenses:


  • Texas CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CPA from a state with Texas reciprocity required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation with insurance are required.
