What this job involves - The Lighting Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lighting equipment for various productions, including theater, concerts, film, television, and events. Their work involves designing lighting plans that enhance the visibility and aesthetics of performances or scenes, ensuring technical requirements are met, and coordinating with directors, producers, and other crew members to achieve the desired visual effects.
What is the day to day? Preparation and Planning: Collaborating with production teams to understand the lighting needs and creating lighting plots and diagrams. Selecting appropriate lighting equipment and accessories based on the project requirements. Installation and Setup: Rigging and installing lighting fixtures, control consoles, and support structures. Ensuring all equipment is safely and correctly positioned, connected, and functional. Operation: Controlling lighting boards and consoles during rehearsals and live performances. Adjusting lights and effects in real time to match cues, moods, and scripts. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Performing regular maintenance and safety checks on equipment. Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues promptly to minimize disruptions. Innovation and Creativity: Developing creative lighting solutions and effects to enhance the production's visual narrative. Staying updated with the latest lighting technologies and trends. Desired experience and technical skills - Required Possesses strong technical skills, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure Good understanding of electrical systems and safety protocols Excellent communication and teamwork skills Preferred Experience working in an industrial/commercial environment |
