A postdoctoral position is available in Harvard Ophthalmology Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab ( https://ophai.hms.harvard.edu) under the supervision of Dr. Mengyu Wang ( https://ophai.hms.harvard.edu/team/dr-wang/) at Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Mengyu Wang is Co-Director of Harvard Ophthalmology AI Lab and an Affiliate Faculty of Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Harvard Data Science Initiative at Harvard University, and Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School. The start date is flexible, with a preference for candidates capable of starting in January or February 2025. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The postdoc will conduct research in two areas. The first area is generative AI and large language models for general applications. The second area is AI's applications in medicine, including medical imaging, genetics, and AI-powered smart glasses and assistive robots for individuals with visual impairments. The postdoc will have access to abundant resources for education, career development and research both from the Harvard hospital campus and Harvard University campus. More than half of our postdocs secured a faculty position after their time in our lab. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Developing statistical and machine learning models to analyze eye-related data * Assisting with exporting and preprocessing data * Writing manuscripts * Assisting with grant applications * Co-mentoring research assistants and interns * Other duties as assigned.
The successful applicant will: * Will be required to possess a PhD or MD prior to starting work, preferably with a background in computer science, mathematics, computational science, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning, computer vision, large language model, image processing, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, visual science and ophthalmology or a related field.

Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. * have strong programming skills (Python, R, MATLAB, C++, etc.) and in-depth understanding of statistics and machine learning. Experience with Linux clusters is a plus. * have a strong and productive publication record. * have a strong work ethic and time management skills along with the ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: The postdoctoral fellow will work in the office located at 20 Staniford Street, Boston, MA, 02114. Remote work is allowed. Computers and office space will be provided by the principal investigator Dr. Mengyu Wang to the postdoctoral fellow to perform the research work. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: None. HIPAA Privacy Training and Sanctions All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plan's policies and procedures that impact on their job duties. Training on the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the plan's health information policies and procedures under the direction of the institution's privacy officer is a pre-requisite for this position. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
