How Is This Role Important to Our Work?

This position is responsible for the retention and expansion of existing Major and National accounts assigned to them and participates in the growth of new business and relevant ancillary lines (inc. dental, life, Personal Spending Accounts, Health and Wellbeing programs or other health management services, group Medicare etc.). The incumbent will manage relationships with clients, consultants/brokers and internal stakeholders to maintain key external relationships and assure Blue Cross maintains and grows its market position. This position may represent the department/division on corporate projects and mentor other sales personnel when needed.

A Day in the Life:
  • Lead, implement and coordinate the annual contract renewal for customers by collaborating with our stakeholders (Agents, Consultants, and/or Brokers) and customer to negotiate the financial terms of the contract renewal. This includes the negotiation of the rates, benefits, and risk arrangement to achieve Blue Cross business objectives.
  • Be a knowledge leader in emerging market issues, and be consultative and interactive with clients about innovation, opportunities, and solutions that translate into being a trusted resource for the client.
  • Develop and implement account plans to retain existing business and achieve growth in the sale of value-add solutions such as dental, vision, health and wellbeing programs, group Medicare etc.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with customers and stakeholders (such as clients and consultants/brokers) to increase Blue Cross brand loyalty and satisfaction by proactively servicing customers to provide timely identification and resolution of service issues by coordinating with operations personnel and management from within the sales environment or other Blue Cross divisions.
  • Lead client negotiations and effectively implement contracts for products, services and prices by coordinating with operations personnel and management from within the sales environment using exceptional strategic selling skills.
  • Support the pursuit of new business by participating in the development and implementation of stakeholders' (Clients, and Consultants/Brokers) growth development plans
  • Participate in the implementation of assigned new business contracts to assure successful internal implementation while understanding and meeting stakeholders (Agents, Consultants, Brokers and/or Fund Managers) and customer business needs.

  • Provide education to stakeholders (Clients, and Consultants/Brokers) on Blue Cross, BlueLinktpa products, services and operational initiatives (e.g. claims management, account reporting, and member services) to enhance relationship and increase Blue Cross brand loyalty.
  • Provide ongoing input and feedback to internal partners by participating in interdepartmental committees, work groups and focus groups as requested.
  • Keep management apprised of escalated issues while ensuring resolution.
  • Mentor and may provide work direction to other members within Commercial Markets.
  • Communicate emerging market trends, client issues, and opportunities in a solution- oriented manner
Nice to Have:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of Blue Cross and affiliates products.
Required Skills and Experiences:
  • 4+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
  • Possess and maintain a valid MN Resident Producer License in the lines of Life & Health/ Accident.
  • Annual Group Medicare Certification.
  • Excellent analytical, problem identification and resolution skills as these pertain to benefit plans.
  • Financial capabilities including ability to read, understand, interpret and present complex renewal and underwriting formulas.
  • Knowledge of ancillary programs available in the industry and Blue Cross (life, ADandD, STD, LTD, CDHP products, Population Health and Care Management programs, Medicare D, Group Medicare, voluntary benefits and disability management programs).
  • Highly organized with attention to details and a track record of delivering a high level of client service in a timely manner while maximizing account profitability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to speak in front of customer and members to educate, persuade and sell complex products.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute healthy and positive dynamics to the work team and the ability to train and mentor team members.
  • Demonstrated relationship building capability with assigned accounts and with internal staff PC Skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Lotus Notes.
  • Overnight travel as required.
  • Able to influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay Range: $140,000.00 - $145,000.00 - $150,000.00 Annual + Commission

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
