GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Peer Counselor position works in a unique empowerment-oriented adult community support program. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Works with multi-disciplinary staff assisting individuals with vocational, social, and life skills on site and in the community. - Meets one on one with members to provide support around member's mental health recovery process while setting appropriate limits and professional boundaries. - Receives one on one on a weekly basis supervision from program supervisory staff to provide guidance and support to the peer counselor as he/she interfaces with members. - Participates in weekly team meetings to provide updates, goals and action plans of members. - Peer Counselor has access to member's personal history, therefore CONFIDENTIALITY is a must. - Individually leads/facilitates groups to provide support and guidance to members. - Uses his/her own recovery experience as a framework to understand and support members in their own recovery journey and process his/her own recovery experience in a professional way, consistently observing appropriate limits/boundaries including those supported by the Peer Specialist certification training and the Waverley Place Program to preserve and protect the staff/member relationship. - Complete required documentation in a timely fashion. - Inspire hope by modeling personal responsibility, self-advocacy and wellness. This is a temporary job for one year

High school education is required. Massachusetts Driver's license is preferred. Certification: Certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS) preferred. Once hired, CPS certification must be obtained within designated time period. This is a condition of employment; employees who do not attain CPS certification within 6 months will be ineligible to continue employment in this position. Self awareness, ability to receive feedback to enhance learning and recovery a must. All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
