Position Summary |
THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 2 YEARS.
This position will provide bioinformatics support to Dr. Shehzad Sheikh's lab for genomic research projects. These projects require the processing and analysis of genome-wide data sets from experiments employing high-throughput sequencing, microarrays and related genome-wide technologies, and also the development of a database to track samples, experiments, and phenotypic information. The goal of this position will be to assist with analyzing data, generate computational pipelines, assist with analyzing software, and contribute to the analysis and interpretation of this data. This position will help the PI with the supervision of other computational staff scientists, support the training or graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, and work with university staff to best utilize the
UNC Research Computing infrastructure. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Course work in biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, computer science or related field and experience in bioinformatics consulting and development or similar areas. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Demonstrated experience in software engineering practices including version control, testing, and documentation of all software. Experience developing software in python, java, matlab, and databases such as mysql, and distributed cluster computing environment with networked data storage. Experience with high through put sequencing tools including but not limited to
GSNAP, samtools, fastx toolkit, picard tools, DESeq, EdgeR,
QIIME and Mach is not required but preferred. The individual should have strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and work on multiple unrelated projects. |
