Overview


The Fork Truck Operator Associate plays a critical role in the efficient and safe handling of lumber, materials, and finished products within the physical plant. This position is responsible for the timely movement, loading, and unloading of materials while maintaining compliance with 84 Lumber's Safety Standards for forklift operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport lumber, building materials, and finished products safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload trucks, ensuring proper handling and placement of materials to prevent damage.
  • Maintain a clean and organized yard by properly storing materials in designated areas.
  • Inspect forklift and equipment daily to ensure proper functioning and report any maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies to promote a secure work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to fulfill customer orders accurately and on time.
  • Assist with inventory management by conducting periodic checks and reporting discrepancies.

Qualifications:

  • Prior forklift operation experience preferred; training provided.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) frequently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to following safety standards and maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Employment Requirements:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand simple diagrams, blueprints, and tape measure.
  • Ability to work 10-12 hours shifts and lift up-to 80 pounds.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Complete and successfully pass a Background check (minimum 7 years)
  • Complete and successfully pass a Controlled Substances Screening (drug test)
  • Authorization to work in the USA/Successfully pass an E-Verify

Responsibilities

Train in all areas of the Yard Department to include operating various types of mobile and fixed equipment including forklifts, and loaders. Training includes required hours for each job position and practical test to be a qualified operator.

Interpret all operational procedures and parameters, including Job Safety Analysis and Work Instructions.

Perform additional duties as needed.

Recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.

Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.

Works well with team members or independently; gives and receives feedback in a constructive manner.


Qualifications

Able to read and write in their primary language.

Organizational skills

Basic math skills

84 Components Fork Truck License

Makes timely and sound decisions; uses resources wisely.

Displays a positive, can-do attitude; maintains composure when faced with difficult situations.
