Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students the Assistant Dean/Director oversees housing operations and is responsible for the comprehensive management of residential programs, facilities and staffing for the residential population for the East Falls and Center City campuses. This position serves as a member of the Dean of Students leadership team which is responsible for the overall management of the university's facilities and housing operations, occupancy management, housing selection, summer housing and facility related initiatives. The Assistant Dean is principally responsible for the recruitment, hiring and training of the residence life student and professional staff and for the overall coordination of all department facility and housing operation processes. This includes supervision of 4 assistant directors, 2 resident directors, 1 housing coordinator, 1 housing operations coordinator, 58 resident assistants and office assistants on the East Falls and Center City campuses. The Assistant Dean/Director of Residence Life and Community Standards manages student concerns and parent relations and serves as the Dean of Students central University Community Standards officer. Additionally, this position oversees support services for off campus housing and participates in the on-going duty rotation for campus crisis and emergency response.

Job Description

Summary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for all housing facilities & operations initiatives for university-owned student housing on the East Falls and Center City campuses. Provide vision & leadership for housing occupancy management, including but not limited to planning, reporting, management, communication & marketing. Indirectly manage & oversee housing assignments, billing, room changes/selection processes and marketing efforts to assure desired occupancy levels.
  • Provide leadership and coordination of residential life programming model. Oversee assessment of various residential life programs and provide recommendations for changes. Develop and implement long range strategic planning for Residential Life. Oversee assessment of various residential life program and provide recommendations for changes.
  • Supervise the Office of Residential Life staff including 4 Assistant Directors, 2 Resident Directors, 1 Housing Coordinator, 1 Housing Operations Coordinator, 58 Resident Assistants and Office Assistants for East Falls and Center City campuses.
  • Provide leadership for all professional and paraprofessional departmental staff. Create a supportive environment that promotes the professional/personal development of staff members.
  • Indirectly oversee all hall opening/closing processes in conjunction with departmental leadership, hall staff and campus constituents. Assist in the implementation of housing studies that include housing retention & projection trends. Assist in the management of the technological infrastructures for the residence halls and department.
  • Oversees the development and management of the residence life budget, department fundraising efforts, including with contracted vendors including delivering of services to residents.
  • Establish and supervise residential life safety and security procedures in coordination with the Office of Public Safety.
  • Develop, plan, and implement a professional and paraprofessional staff training program for Residential Life Staff.
  • Lead Divisional efforts to support implementation and assessment process of a Facilities Master Plan for Housing encompassing construction, renovation, deferred maintenance, renewal, and replacement, as well as general and preventative maintenance of all residence halls buildings.
  • Serve as the Dean of Students central Community Standards officer and coordinate the development/review of community standards policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and coordinate training and implementation of community standards policies/procedures and Title IX compliance within Residential Life.
  • Coordinate and assist Dean's Office divisional and department student assessment efforts.
  • Serves as member of Student Support Network (Student Intervention Team and Behavioral Intervention Team)
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, campus communications, marketing strategies, follow-through, and outreach.
  • Will act as deputy to the Dean of Students and represent the Dean of Students Office.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity to support staff emergency response during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Students.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or a similar area preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in student affairs.
  • Experience in, and a strong understanding of, Residence Life and Housing Operations practices.
  • Knowledge of mental health conditions and ability to engage in emergency situations.
  • Visionary outlook and strong background in student development theory and practice, facilities and budget management, policy development/implementation and supervision.
  • Appreciation for all forms of diversity and a willingness to work with students and staff to create an environment that fosters respect, appreciation, and values the contributions of all members of the community.
  • Proven ability to ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
  • The ability to collaborate with personnel in Public Safety, Physical Plant, academic departments, and other University offices in order to meet the needs of residential students.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evening, weekend and "on call" assignments.
  • Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Banner, Canvas, Maxient and StarRez.
