Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Director of Software Engineering, Architecture, and Delivery is a critical leadership role responsible for setting the technical roadmap and overseeing the software engineering, architecture, and delivery of Jefferson Health's core digital experience platforms on the IS&T's Digital Technologies team. This role ensures that platforms, systems, and products like ServiceNow, Salesforce, Adobe AEM, Unily, MuleSoft, custom Java/Microsoft/Python/API-based applications, Microsoft Azure cloud solutions, and more are scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant, resilient, and secure, delivering seamless and integrated experiences and value across the enterprise and to our consumers.

As a key leader, you will focus on technical innovations, build robust software engineering, and partner with Jefferson cloud infrastructure teams on roadmaps, performance optimization, scalability, and resilience of modern architectures. You will leverage Generative AI, API-first capabilities, and enhanced observability to drive innovation. You will also play a crucial role in building and developing high-performance teams, ensuring Jefferson Health attracts, retains, and grows top technical talent while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technology Leadership & Innovation

  • Deliver the Digital Roadmap: Lead and enable the technical roadmap for Jefferson Health's digital experience platforms, implement technology modernization and innovations, build robust processes, and strengthen cross-functional collaborations. Ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives, with a focus on innovation, modernization, performance, and scalability.
  • Leverage Generative AI: Spearhead the integration of Generative AI into Jefferson Health's technology stack, ensuring AI-driven insights to enhance the quality of solutions that support healthcare delivery and services.
  • Develop Scalable Solutions: Oversee the development of cloud-native, API-driven architectures that are robust, scalable, and secure. Drive the adoption of modern technologies to ensure systems can support Jefferson Health's growth and evolving needs.
  • Promote Observability and Monitoring: Ensure that all systems are designed with enhanced observability and monitoring in mind, using real-time metrics to proactively manage performance, security, and uptime.
  • Shape the Technical Roadmap: Collaborate with the product, the business, UX, and other cross-functional leaders and teams to define the long-term technology and roadmaps, driving alignment on key initiatives and ensuring technological solutions are delivered effectively.

Engineering Excellence & Platform Delivery

  • Lead Software Architecture, Development, & Delivery: Oversee the architecture, design, development, and delivery of platforms like ServiceNow, Salesforce, Adobe AEM, and others, ensuring scalability, operational efficiency, and security.
  • Optimize Performance and Resilience: Implement best practices for performance optimization, scalability, high availability, and fault tolerance, ensuring systems are resilient to heavy load and can quickly recover from disruptions.
  • Manage API Development and Integrations: Lead the development and implementation of API-first capabilities, ensuring seamless integration across platforms to support healthcare, education, and health plan services.
  • Drive Agile Practices: Establish and maintain agile development practices, ensuring that engineering teams are equipped with the best tools and methodologies to deliver on time and with high quality.
  • Oversee CI/CD, Automation, and DevOps: Collaborate with CTO's office to promote and implement continuous integration, delivery, and automation through the implementation of CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps principles, ensuring efficient, secure, and scalable resource provisioning and solutions deployments.

Team Development, Talent Growth, & Culture

  • Recruit and Retain Top Talent: Lead efforts to attract and recruit high-performing engineers, architects, and technical leaders. Focus on retaining talent by fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, enablement, and continuous learning.
  • Develop and Mentor Talent: Implement strategies to train, mentor, and develop the next generation of technical leaders, ensuring Jefferson Health's engineering teams are future ready.
  • Foster a Collaborative Culture: Create an environment that encourages cross-team collaboration, open communication, and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Promote Diversity and Inclusion: Ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of team building and talent management, creating a workplace where all individuals feel valued and supported.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead Stakeholder and Cross-functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization, and strengthen collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment on key initiatives and technical strategies.
  • Communicate Effectively: Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable strategies for both technical teams and business leaders. Ensure proactive communication and documentation at all levels of the organization.
  • Act as a Liaison: Serve as the technical liaison between engineering, product, UX, and business teams, ensuring that technical solutions meet business needs and enhance user experiences.
  • Manage Vendor Relationships: Partner with third-party vendors to manage platform integrations, ensuring seamless collaboration and delivering best-in-class solutions.

Operational Excellence & API/Integration Focus

  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Implement performance metrics to monitor and improve system uptime, response times, and operational effectiveness, ensuring the resilience and scalability of digital platforms.
  • Drive API and Cloud-Native Digital Roadmaps: Lead the technical direction for API-first architectures and cloud-native solutions, ensuring seamless integration and high-performance delivery across all systems.
  • Enhance Observability and Monitoring: Drive the implementation of real-time observability and monitoring frameworks to detect and resolve system issues before they impact users proactively.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • 15+ years of industry experience in software engineering, architecture, and product development, with demonstrated success in delivering enterprise-grade mission-critical solutions.
  • 10+ years building and managing high-performance global senior engineering teams (local and offshore).
  • 5+ years of expertise in managing platforms like Salesforce, ServiceNow, Adobe AEM, and custom-built systems.
  • Proven experience with cloud-native platforms (Azure, AWS), API-first architectures, and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging Generative AI, leading API integrations, and driving cloud-based digital capabilities to build resilient, scalable platforms.
  • Strong background in performance optimization, resilience, observability, and real-time system monitoring in a complex digital environment.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong expertise in modern software architectures, including cloud-native services, distributed systems, API-first designs, and DevOps principles.
  • Experience with platform integration across ServiceNow, Salesforce, Adobe AEM, Microsoft Azure, and custom Java/Microsoft/Python applications.
  • Strong familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability practices to ensure system resilience and scalability.
  • Deep understanding of AI-driven technologies, security protocols, and performance management techniques.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams with strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing engineering talent, with a focus on creating pathways for leadership and career growth.
  • Demonstrated success in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment on strategy and execution.

Education

  • Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
