The Senior Director of Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of end to end hardware and software critical communications products. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in building and scaling high-performing teams, driving product innovation, experience managing cross-functional teams, delivering a complete product portfolio and having a strong understanding of the technology landscape. The Senior Director of Engineering will work closely with engineering, product management, quality, supply chain and operations teams to ensure that all products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability and performance.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a people-oriented leader with experience leading large engineering organizations. Our hardware, software and test organization delivers sophisticated critical communications devices and features supporting multiple wireless technologies and end-to-end on-prem and cloud solutions.

  • You will build and lead an organization of hardware and software developers and engineers who conceive, develop, test, deliver, and maintain end-to-end critical communications devices

  • Design programs, practices, and organizational structures that create a vibrant engineering culture, develop employees and inspire highly engaged teams

  • You'll work with cross-functional team members (design, product management, quality, supply chain and development leaders) to align and develop our product vision, technology, strategy and product roadmap

  • Clearly define, measure, and report on engineering owned KPI's with a clear focus on optimization of people, processes, and tools to drive productivity, quality, and efficiency at scale

  • You'll establish the department budget, including employee labor, project spend, headcount trends, operating expenses, etc.

  • Identify and initiate research initiatives to reduce technical and execution risk

  • You'll track metrics, identify blockers to overall team effectiveness, and recommend process improvements

  • You will create a culture of strong technical ownership, resulting in highly reliable products and services at scale

  • You'll foster a healthy and collaborative culture that embodies Motorola's values and continue to develop Motorola as one of the best places to work

  • Provide guidance, support and technical leadership in day-to-day operations related to engineering execution and technology innovation

  • You'll attract, recruit, hire, coach, and develop amazing engineers - developing leadership and technical talent across the whole department

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience in a medium or large technology company including 5+ years managing and leading engineering teams

  • Proven track record of successfully growing and scaling large organizations with a focus on empowering leadership teams and effective change management

  • Have a strategic mindset with the ability to align technical development activities with business objectives and market needs

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand and align with broader company goals and strategies

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

  • Deep organization capabilities, especially in influence, collaboration and communication

  • Experience in designing, developing and launching end to end products and services

  • Understanding design for manufacturability principles and what is required to efficiently introduce new products into a scale production manufacturing operation

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams, influencing key stakeholders across the organization, and communicating to business executives

  • Passionate about enabling and empowering teams while also creating positive and engaging employee environments

  • BS degree Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline

Salary range - $225,000 - $250,000 / year
