Role Summary

The Facilities Workplace Design team is Rivian's in-house design team focused on the physical typologies of thebrand; Office and R+D facilities. Our ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative thinker, with a solid understanding of facility workplace and lab technical needs. This is a dynamic position focused on cross-functional collaboration and translating the Rivian workplace needs into spaces that are functional, efficient, executed in such a way that is representative of our compass values.


Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and communicate design ideas through sketches, markups, drafting, or illustrations/renderings.
  • Lead design development discussions around given programs to define the scope of the project. Coordinate and collaborate internally: Operations, Construction Managers, Environ. Health and Safety, Engineering, Data/IT, Security.
  • Be an internal resource for specific attributes of workplace design; referencing previous projects and internal Standards documents for project consistency.
  • Determine required mock-ups specific to projects & lead design conversations around unique construction conditions.
  • Develop furniture packages. Organize cost & unit count and finalize for finance approvals. Order project furniture, coordinate installation and purchase orders.
  • Produce pricing packages (and/or narratives) that define the final scope of a project, to be used for direct pricing to GCs or as hand-off documents to consulting AEORs.
  • Independently coordinate and collaborate externally with consultants: architects, engineers, vendors, and fabricators.
  • Independently manage purchase orders and change orders for design/engineering consultants.
  • Assist design team for solutions, using historic workplace design knowledge.
  • Lead internal review efforts at documentation milestones. Point of contact for end-user specific questions.
  • File and track project information and documentation.
  • Drive solutions for issues found in the field working with consulting architects/engineers.
  • Visit sites with operations and end users to evaluate existing conditions and capture field investigation - including photos and as-built drawings as required.
  • A leader for RFP development for AEOR services, with Purchasing partners.
  • Manages project costs associated with design driven scope, scope changes, and consultant fees.
  • Drive solutions for issues found in the field, working with consulting architects/engineers.
  • Delivering successful projects that are on budget, on schedule, compliant with program standards and with a holistic understanding of program financials. Accountable for permit schedule and permit approval.
  • Organizing and shaping presentations for executive leadership, external approval agencies.
  • Contribute to the office and team culture, initiatives, and strategy conversations.

Qualifications

  • Accredited bachelor's or master's degree in architecture. Building code knowledge is important - an architectural license in California is preferred, but not required. (8+) years' experience with office/lab project design and construction administration.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders across multiple functions and at all levels, both within and outside of the organization.
  • Proficient with Office, Autodesk Revit and Autocad, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Master of developing and referencing construction documents.
  • Has an analytical, creative, innovative, and problem-solving mindset with an attention to detail
  • Able to coordinate multiple projects at the same time, with the ability to shift focus very quickly and adjust to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, negotiation, analytic, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience managing small and large-scale programs and projects.
  • Self-starter who is goal-oriented, highly motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and process improvements.
  • A customer service-oriented personality who brings positive energy and happiness to the workplace!
  • The physical demands associated with the duties and responsibilities described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job. This includes the ability to spend extended hours walking construction sites and traveling to different project sites and offices.
  • The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee may encounter while performing this job. The Design Manager must be based in Southern California with proximity to Irvine and Torrance for site visits and to attend meetings at multiple offices. Some site visits out of state may be required. Exposure to the outdoors, dust, and potentially high noise levels. The use of personal protective equipment in some labs is mandatory.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for CA based applicants: $125,000 - $156,200 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment
