Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Sr. Compliance Officer - CTA to join our team. Here at Mechanics Bank, we value connection, partnership, long term relationships and working together in person. This role will be working on-site at our Walnut Creek, Irvine or Roseville offices.

The Sr. Compliance Officer - CTA is responsible for the ongoing support of the Bank's Compliance Program for all regulations, acts and laws under the purview of the Corporate Compliance Program, Using a proactive approach to identify system, procedural, or training weaknesses in an effort to prevent exposure to regulatory criticism, penalties, and other related risks. The Sr. Compliance Officer - CTA conducts audits and assessments to identify areas of non-compliance through policy, procedure and transactional testing. Responsible for writing reports for senior and executive management and works with stakeholders to address any issues or deficiencies. Provides guidance and training to employees on compliance matters and serve as a point of contact for internal groups, risk management teams, internal audit, regulatory agencies and outside auditors.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop, plan and perform compliance reviews that independently evaluate the adequacy, comprehensiveness and effectiveness of the Bank's compliance with Consumer Compliance regulations, laws and rules, including non-consumer related regulations, rules and laws impacting Wealth Management. Evaluate the Compliance and Wealth Management adherence to applicable internal policy requirements.

  • Identify process and procedural deficiencies and recommend solutions to complex issues.

  • Track remediation action plans to final resolution to ensure deficiencies are addressed and resolved adequately and timely. Write reports or presentations that clearly articulate the results and conclusions of compliance review activities. Present results to senior and executive management. Validate remediation efforts and results; offer guidance for refinement, if necessary.

  • Work collaboratively across groups and with other risk management teams, including internal audit. Work with senior management, Legal Department and other key constituencies to encourage and promote a culture of compliance.

  • Maintain an understanding of the compliance division's framework and the inter-connectivity of its key components. Maintain an understanding of business operations and regulatory guidance and expectations. Anticipate changes in the internal and external environment and revise the testing program to suit these changes. Provide guidance relating to compliance and business line projects.

  • Develop annual and ongoing testing plans/strategies according to overall risk evaluation and completes annual test plan risk assessments.

  • Develop effective working relationships with team members while distinguishing self as a leader.

Who you are:

  • Required 4 Year Bachelors Degree.

  • 5 years of experience in Compliance or Audit required.

  • Banking, Compliance or Audit experience may be considered in lieu of education.

  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS)

  • Certified Fiduciary and Investment Risk Specialist (CFIRS)

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)

  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)

  • Excellent knowledge of trust, investment, BSA/AML/OFAC and consumer compliance regulations.

  • Ability and willingness to independently solve complicated compliance issues.

  • Proven ability to identify and improve efficiency of processes and procedures.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills based on thoughtful assessment of risk and attention to detail along with good judgement.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Exhibits high degree of confidentiality in handling and access to sensitive information.

  • Exercises sound judgment and ensures the integrity of confidential information.

Salary: $76,000-120,000 annual

Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
