Job Summary

Compass has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Payroll Trainer at the Charlotte headquarters. This person will be responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of training programs for the Payroll department and field managers. Key responsibilities include:
Training Delivery and Facilitation:

  • Design and deliver training programs for new hires, department teams, and field managers.
  • Provide onboarding training and ongoing development to ensure team members are equipped with the knowledge to succeed.
  • Conduct system-specific training (e.g., Payroll System, MySTAFF/Compass Time/OMS/SAP/Helix, etc.) to ensure proficiency and compliance across teams.
  • Lead training sessions on payroll-related topics such as wage and hour regulations, sector-specific wage policies, and regulatory changes.

Training Materials & Documentation:

  • Develop and maintain training materials, including eLearning modules, job aids, and user guides for payroll systems and policies.
  • Regularly review and update training content to ensure it aligns with regulatory changes and business needs.
  • Document the impact of system changes on training materials and ensure consistent communication of changes across the department.
  • Collaborate with the training team to develop and improve training tools and resources.

Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll-related training, advising on content development and ensuring accuracy.
  • Act as a key resource in providing guidance and support to the training team, especially regarding payroll systems and compliance standards.

Assessment and Continuous Improvement:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback, performance metrics, and changing business requirements.
  • Conduct assessments of trainees to ensure understanding and competence in payroll systems and regulatory topics.
  • Support ongoing training for team members to keep them up-to-date with new tools, procedures, and regulations.

Cross-Department Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments to align training objectives and ensure a consistent and efficient approach to employee development.
  • Provide insights on system updates and ensure training materials are adjusted accordingly for cross-functional departments impacted by payroll systems.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree required (preferably in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Education or a related field).
    • 3+ years of experience in payroll, with demonstrated expertise in payroll systems and compliance regulations highly desired.
    • Proven experience in training, with at least 2 years of experience designing and delivering training programs, preferably in payroll or HR-related functions.
    • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., SAP), Time and Attendance software, and familiarity with payroll-related tools.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to deliver training effectively both in-person and virtually (oral, written, and presentation).
    • Solid organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Adaptability in a dynamic environment with a passion for continuous learning and process improvement.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a changing environment.
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
    • Willingness to travel (potentially 5% annually).
