Joining our Origination team at Deriva Energy as an Associate Manager, Origination is an exciting, dynamic, and diverse job that will have significant impact starting day 1. The Origination team is responsible for developing and cultivating client relationships, with a primary focus on market intelligence and identifying new off-takers for our growing portfolio of renewable energy development projects. We expect you to learn, grow, and find ways to positively impact the organization. We are looking for team players that bring experiences that will broaden our perspective and find creative ways to identify and develop new opportunities to contract projects.

As an Associate Manager, Origination, you will work with the internal Origination team and various subject matter experts (SMEs) across Deriva Energy and Brookfield Renewable U.S. (BRUS). Working cross-functionally with our talented developers, engineers, underwriters, environmental scientists, contract managers, marketing professionals, operators and legal team is what makes Deriva Energy a great place to work and succeed. Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Origination, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for creating connections across a wide range of industries and keeping a finger on the pulse of the various markets across the US by responding to RFP's and working bilaterally with large energy customers. . The position plays a key role in building and maintaining relationships in power markets across the US and will have a unique opportunity to develop and execute offtake strategies across multiple renewable technologies and geographies.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain your existing network with utilities, C&Is, retailers and other renewable energy industry players and build your network through direct outreach.

  • Establish a strong Deriva Energy presence at conferences and other industry events.

  • Propose ideas on ways to make new connections and mentor junior staff in external relationship building.

  • Track key market trends and client requirements that are shaping contractual structures and integrate that knowledge to suggest structures that equitably distribute risk.

  • Identify new approaches and sources for customer, market, and tariff analyses.

  • Provide market intelligence on unique offtake agreements like proxy revenue swaps, financial hedging, and REC sales.

  • Review the offtake analysis and nodal analysis (as needed) at various project tiers.

  • Be well versed on our development pipeline and be able to discuss with potential off-takers.

  • Lead the RFP process for various regions and provide input on RFP go/no go based on market intelligence

  • Follow our Origination team's processes and procedures to ensure consistency across the team and suggest updates and refinements to improve the processes.

  • Work with junior staff to resolve issues and elevate issues as needed.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • 5+ years of power experience with 2+ years in middle marketing or origination work in the power sector

Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA or other Master's Degree is a plus

  • Renewables-specific experience is strongly preferred

  • Act as a collaborative, collegial, and engaged team member

  • Current knowledge of renewable energy markets (ISOs/RTOs and WECC) and key drivers (e.g., policies, technologies, dynamics in local markets), especially for wind, solar, and storage

  • Previous experience supporting successful client negotiations, including contractual analysis; previous deal leadership is a plus

  • Possess a passion for delivering innovative solutions to the challenge of moving the world to a clean energy future

  • Demonstrate an understanding of contractual concepts including basis risk, power markets, hedging, losses, and congestion

  • Ability to build strong customer relationships across organization levels

  • Capable leader who can work effectively throughout the organization and influence others to high performance

Working Conditions:

This role is intended to be located at the Deriva Headquarters office in Charlotte, NC. The office position is hybrid.
