As an Engineering Manager, you will be using your skills and expertise to manage functional teams through program execution for our products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You will represent the engineering department at all management level meetings. You'll ensure that the engineering design, documentation, and approvals meet the program schedules, are obtained in a timely manner and that engineering hours expended are productive, meeting program goals and budgets. You will own and continuously improve processes and procedures, oversee training of staff and provide technical direction as required.

This position serves as a leader of Flight Software development and is responsible for managing a Flight Software Development team and their products across multiple spacecraft missions for both civilian and DoD programs. This position requires a combination of managing direct reports across multiple programs while contributing technically to a program. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the team through the design, development, test, and certification of Flight Software

  • Maintaining mission critical flight software across various programs

  • Implementing best practices for developing maintainable production ready software products

  • Implementing comprehensive software documentation including, but not limited to: Software Requirements and Interfaces, Software User Guides, test plans, and release notes

  • Coordinating and collaborating across multi-discipline/multi-organizational teams to understand key aspects of various subsystems, safety requirements, and operational requirements

  • Managing daily operations required to support Sierra Space stakeholder and customer needs

  • Managing risks, opportunities, cost, schedule, and staffing across multiple programs

  • Managing direct reports including tasking, timecards, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation management

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related discipline and typically 8 or more years of relevant technical experience

  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, analysis and simulation

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Software Management Plans and Software Change Management Processes

  • Strong technical understanding of C++ and Object-Oriented Programming

  • Practical experience developing, unit testing, troubleshooting, and debugging flight software

  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, tools, and best practices

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Thorough understanding and experience spanning the full software development lifecycle

  • Practical experience utilizing CI/CD practices as well as automated build and test

  • Familiarity with common object-oriented software design patterns

  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban

  • Desire to work with, learn from, and mentor others

  • Understanding of statistics and their application to performance analysis

  • Leadership experience such as scrum lead, product owner, team management

  • Experience leading Integrated Software Designs through PDR, CDR, and various design reviews on a Large Space Craft Program

Estimated Salary Ranges:

Manager I - $120,552 - $165,759

Manager II - $138,634 - $190,623

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps

  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity

  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)

  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials

  • Rarely exposed to loud noises

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
