Position Description

Anoka County Community Social Services and Behavioral Health has two openings for full-time Associate Social Workers. This position will be housed within the Community Resources and Volunteers unit. The Associate Social Worker - Community Connector will work closely with Social Workers (including MnChoices Assessors) and Economic Assistance staff to assist clients in applying for medical assistance and/or financial assistance programs. This position requires candidates who are detail-oriented and possess strong communication skills.

These are full-time, non-exempt, hybrid positions. Interviews will take place the week of January 27th, 2025 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: $60,819.20 to $72,966.40 ($29.24 to $35.08 per hour).
  • 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $60,819.20 to $85,113.60 ($29.24 to $40.92 per hour).

Work Location

  • This position will work at Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.
  • This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
  • This position will work in the community as needed, including client homes and transporting clients.
  • Expected work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Associate Social Worker.

  • Assist clients in completing medical assistance and other financial assistance program paperwork.
  • Meet with clients in office-based or community-based settings.
  • Assist clients in obtaining verifications needed to obtain assistance.
  • Complete and maintain case notes and records.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providers, agency staff, and the public.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, Adult Protection social workers and Economic Assistance staff.
  • Organize, prioritize, and manage workflow.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Bachelor's degree in a closely related field.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or social work.
  • One year or more (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience of job-related experience in human services, social services, public assistance, or closely related field.
  • Experience working with Minnesota Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS), Medical Assistance (MA), Social Services Information System (SSIS), MnCHOICES assessment, OnBase electronic filing system, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and/or individuals that are affected by issues including neglect, domestic violence, disability, mental health, homelessness and financial insecurities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, critical thinking and effective time management.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Standard office environment.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
  • Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work.
  • Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
  • Travel within the community as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.

Anoka County has determined that successfully passing a pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen and DOT physical, and/or other qualifications checks may be necessary for certain positions.
