Purpose

As part of Enterprise Platforms, this Senior Project Manager position works with functional, technical, and subject matter experts within the offices of the Executive Vice President and Provost, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer, other campus partners, and our technical teams to lead multiple large, complex IT projects.

Responsibilities
  • Manages multiple, complex IT projects in a diverse technical and organizational environment.
  • Using approaches appropriate for individual project needs, develops project plans (including bottom-up and top-down time and effort estimates), resource requirements, change management processes, risk management, milestone tracking and status reporting, communication mechanisms, test plans and deliverables. Coordinates project staffing assignments with functional and technical leads.
  • Develops effective means of communicating project status, progress, risks, and issues to drive projects to completion. Proactively manages risks and issues by planning and implementing mitigations as needed.
  • Develops trust-based relationships with clients and staff and demonstrates leadership to resolve issues and develop solutions within a federated university environment.
  • Works independently and exercises good judgment. Recognizes ambiguous assignments and takes necessary steps to effectively take action in a timely manner and make recommendations. Demonstrates ownership and commitment to drive project technical, business, and/or strategic decisions being made and documented.
  • Acts as a change agent, meeting clients and staff where they are and using change management techniques to help them adapt to and embrace changes in business processes and technology solutions.
  • Applies, develops, and documents project management best practices. Coaches and mentors junior project managers and other team members to adopt these practices.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, internal consulting, and management skills. Tailors project communications to meet the needs of specific audiences, including executives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Five years of professional experience managing and leading large enterprise IT projects within a matrix organizational structure.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering large IT projects on schedule while meeting customer and stakeholder expectations.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the following competencies: decision-making and critical thinking, tactical and strategic planning, effective communications and facilitation, problem solving conflict management, and project team management.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer relationship-building and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, both
  • independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional years of project management experience.
  • Relevant project management certification, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Familiarity with software development practices and processes.
  • Experience in the higher education sector and knowledge of commonly used concepts and practices within higher education IT.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a complex program of multiple IT projects spanning multiple business areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead without authority and ability to drive effective results in a diverse and challenging environment.
Salary Range

$98,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • This position is currently remote but may require occasional visits to campus. Please note that work arrangements are subject to change based on university policy.
  • Standard UT schedule, Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
