Savannah River National Laboratory
United States, South Carolina, Aiken
Savannah River Site (Show on map)
Mar 18, 2025

Savannah River National Laboratory's Environmental and Legacy Management (ELM) directorate is seeking an Off-gas Chemical Engineer to contribute to our environmental protection mission by applying their understanding of gas-phase chemistry, measurement, and/or treatment to accelerate closure of and reduce risk at active cleanup sites for the Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM).

The off-gas chemical engineer will be responsible for performing and documenting laboratory applied science experimentation in the field of radioactive and hazardous material processing, stabilization, and characterization to enable nuclear materials processing, site cleanup, and waste disposition across the DOE complex.

The engineer will develop testing protocols and perform laboratory scale testing using both simulated and radioactive waste tank matrices primarily in support of DOE-EM directives. Work scope may include process support of operating facilities at SRS and throughout the DOE complex consisting of monitoring chemical processing and elucidating mechanisms of complex reactions in situ via off-gas analysis, design/optimization of off-gas measurement and/or treatment systems, expansion of scientific boundaries in nuclear knowledge and processes, optimization, integration, and/or process troubleshooting of current site or DOE-complex processes, nuclear material disposition experimentation, and development of reclamation processes.
