The opportunity

You will support the University's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion by guiding accessibility plans and supporting faculty, staff, and learners in creating an inclusive digital environment. As the University's leading subject matter expert (SME) on digital accessibility and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), the Manager of Digital Accessibility effectuates and coordinates efforts to effectuate the accessibility of the University's information and communication technology (ICT) to all users, including those with disabilities. You will report to the Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer. You can work remotely.

What you'll do:

  • Accessibility Evaluation: Evaluate prospective and current department-based and enterprise-wide ICT for WCAG compliance using accessibility evaluation tools and manual testing methods. Perform such evaluations following federal regulations (e.g., ADA, Section 504/508) and university guidelines. Develop detailed reports of findings, including recommendations for remediation, timelines, and alternative solutions to address accessibility barriers. Collaborate with technology vendors and university procurement teams to ensure that selected products meet accessibility standards.

  • Consultation and Collaboration: Serve as the university's digital accessibility SME, advising on accessibility throughout the product lifecycle. Consult on UX design, procurement, IT systems, and proprietary technology development to ensure compliance with accessibility standards. Provide strategic guidance, foster universal design, and support interdepartmental planning. Collaborate with partners to define reasonable, human-centered timelines for remediating barriers and improving digital environments by promoting accessibility into projects, policies, and systems.

  • Team Leadership and Project Management: Lead a team of Accessibility Analysts, mentoring and evaluating performance to encourage professional growth. Delegate tasks related to accessibility review and testing and remediation strategies, ensuring understanding of university priorities. Balance and provide oversight of the team's workload, setting clear and manageable goals, priorities, and timelines for accessibility projects. Promote a collaborative, inclusive environment focused on innovation and learning.

  • Accessibility Council Support: Support the University's interdepartmental Accessibility Council through scheduling and planning quarterly meetings for department-based accessibility leads and other applicable partners. Lead efforts to develop, socialize, and implement systematized best practices for accessibility across university teams and departments.

  • Accessibility Education: Construct and deliver University-wide education and development opportunities related to accessibility and assistive technologies; universal design standards; the University ICT Accessibility Guidelines; and WCAG compliance and best practices for ICT accessibility, generally. Create job aids, guidelines, and knowledge management resources related to digital accessibility and WCAG standards. In partnership with the University's ADA Coordinator, ensure Digital Accessibility team members remain current with the latest in accessibility laws, regulations, and tools by developing internal and identifying external team-appropriate professional development opportunities.

  • Barrier Monitoring and Remediation: Manage the university's barrier report form, monitoring submissions and coordinating responses to reported digital accessibility issues. Collaborate with appropriate departments to resolve reported barriers and track progress toward remediation. Help build proactive processes to reduce future accessibility barriers and improve the university's ICT accessibility, generally.

What we're looking for:

  • 6 Years of experience in management and oversight of digital accessibility, organizational accessibility compliance, accessibility risk management, user experience, quality control to include a hands-on role(s) in related fields such as accessibility analyst, user experience analyst, accessibility risk assessment, accessibility compliance analyst or similar roles

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, UX Design, Computer or Management Information Systems, Educational Technology or a related field.

  • Experience conducting efficient, high-volume VPAT reviews for digital technologies.

  • Expertise in WCAG compliance and a variety of forms of accessibility evaluation, including manual testing.

  • Proficiency with accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE, Siteimprove) and assistive technologies (e.g., JAWS, NVDA).

  • Knowledge of accessibility laws and regulations, including ADA, Section 504/508, and WCAG standards.

  • Familiarity with the product development lifecycle, UX design, and human-centered design principles.

  • Experience with vendor management and procurement processes.

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $83,071.00 - $132,940.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $91,794.00 - $124,192.00.
