When you join UVA Health, you will become part of a team of nationally recognized physicians, nurses, surgeons, and specialists known for their quality of care, positive outcomes, innovative treatments, technologies and research. 6 Central is a 26 bed neuroscience unit which includes a Continuous Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and the Stroke Units. On 6 Central, neuroscience nurses collaboratively work with other healthcare team members to organize, oversee and provide well-rounded evidence based care to patients with acute and/or chronic neurological conditions such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, epilepsy with continuous electrode epilepsy monitoring or intracranial depth electrode epilepsy monitoring, neurodegenerative diseases, neuromuscular diseases and various other neurological diagnoses. With specific Neuro Core Curriculum classes built in to the 6 Central RN Orientation, we strive to promote fundamental neuroscience nursing education that will be applied at the bedside. Despite having this specific population as the majority, 6 Central often welcomes a wide variety of other specialties (i.e. trauma surgery, GYN, Hematology/Oncology and General Medicine, etc.) that may need to board on our unit. Epilepsy Monitor Technicians are responsible for monitoring of patient status via electronic systems and appropriate staff is notified of variance and alarms according to departmental policy. Patient data is documented in a timely manner according to departmental standards. TIME TYPE: WAGE SHIFT: ROTATING
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required. Experience: No experience required. Licensure: None PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires sitting for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, and cold.
