About the Role

Springer Nature, publisher of Nature, seeks a Chief Editor for Nature Biomedical Engineering, an established Nature research journal that publishes outstanding advances in applied biomedicine and health technology. To accompany the research published, Nature Biomedical Engineering increases the visibility of published research with commissioned News& Views, highlights topical issues with Editorials, and publishes state of the art topic-focused, disease-specific or technology-focused Reviews, Perspectives and Comments.

Nature Biomedical Engineering bridges the life sciences, the physical sciences and engineering. Its broad scope encompasses experimental and computational systems, methods, devices, therapies,technology and processes that facilitate the understanding of human disease, or its prevention, diagnosis, treatment, alleviation or monitoring.

To lead this established journal, we seek an ambitious, creative and innovative Chief Editor to chart the future development of Nature Biomedical Engineering.

Responsibilities:

The Chief Editor will lead and develop the careers of an editorial team, and will manage all aspects of the editorial process, from manuscript selection to commissioning and editing Reviews and News & Views articles, as well as contributing writing to the journal. Engaging with the scientific community through lab visits and international conferences will be essential; thus, a willingness to travel is required.

The role offers the opportunity to work within a vibrant editorial and publishing network, including Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Methods, and Nature Biotechnology.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field with a strong research background

  • Editorial experience is required

  • Managerial experience is preferred

  • Inventive, communicative, and personable

  • Broad scientific knowledge

  • Strong writing skills and the capacity to quickly understand emerging research areas are important for the role

This position is ideally based in our New York, Beijing or Shanghai offices, though other Springer Nature locations may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $130,000 - 145,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
