Job Overview
The Director of Engineering will be responsible for all aspects of the engineering activities and projects within the organization, including design engineering, project management, construction management, Product Lifecycle Management ensuring all engineering projects, initiatives, and process are in conformance with organizations established policies and objectives. This role is the Technical Authority Liaison to NASA. This Role supports both the Stennis Space Center and Michoud Assembly Facility.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Oversees the planning, design, and implementation of engineering projects within the organization. This includes Electrical, Design, Mechanical, Construction, Product Data Lifecycle Management, Environmental Management, HAZMAT and Environmental Health.
- Leads and manages the engineering team, providing technical guidance and training.
- Develops and implements engineering strategies, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assesses and evaluates technical operations and systems, proposing recommendations and solutions for improvement.
- Oversee and administer the operation of assigned sections and programs and ensures compliance with federal state and local guidelines, requirements, and regulations.
- Ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations and standards.
- Manage, review, and report on departmental workload data metrics for conformance to contractual requirements and areas of special emphasis.
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the workload planning for engineering staff; assign work activities, projects, and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
- Works closely with other department leaders to coordinate project goals and objectives.
- Keeps up-to-date with the latest engineering trends, techniques, and methods, implementing them into operations where necessary
- Prepares and manages annual budgets and forecasts for Engineering Services Department staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; implements adjustments.
- Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinates staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Oversee safety programs for assigned sections and work groups; assist with action planning for safety programs.
- Manage and participate in the preparation and review of a variety of reports; conducts studies and prepares reports for current and long-range engineering projects.
- Attend a variety of boards, commissions and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
- Oversee and participate in providing customer service to internal and external customers; respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- BSc/MSc degree in Engineering.
- Ten (10) years of work experience as a Director or Engineering or similar leadership role in engineering.
- Advanced understanding of engineering principles and procedures.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and team management.
- Proficiency in CAD software.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an intermediate level.
- Valid state issued driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- PE Preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship.
