How I Built This is an interview-based podcast about innovators, entrepreneurs, leaders, and problem-solvers sharing the powerful stories of how they built some of the world's best-known brands. The How I Built This podcast is produced by NPR and distributed by Wondery, an Amazon-owned podcast publisher. The radio show is distributed by NPR to hundreds of public radio stations across the country. NPR's How I Built This is looking for a temporary Producer I to join our highly collaborative and creative team. Our team produces three programs each week: (1) an hour(+) long podcast, featuring an extended interview with host Guy Raz and a prominent entrepreneur (2) a 45-minute long Advice Line podcast, featuring Guy and a former guest, giving business advice to start-up founders (3) an hour-long radio show: a hybrid of Planet Money and HIBT. From week to week, this producer will rotate through the above assignments, which will include intensive audio production, research, and background interviews of potential guests. A producer at the P1 level may be expected to occasionally fill in as a backup editor, working with team members on shaping and structuring their episodes. The ideal job candidate is already very familiar with How I Built This, has extensive experience working in long-form audio, and the ability to work confidently and efficiently with minimal supervision. An academic background in business is not required, but a passion for business-and specifically, entrepreneurship-is expected. On this show, we are fascinated by what makes founders tick, about what they were like before their brands became household names, about their fears, failures, triumphs and insights. The ideal candidate will share our enthusiasm, as well as the spirit of optimism and inspiration that How I Built This listeners have come to love and look forward to. The position can be remote, reporting to the Supervising Producer/Editor of How I Built This. This is a union-represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement withSAG-AFTRA. This is an NPR editorial role covered under the terms of the NPR Ethics Handbook. All editorial staff are bound by this guidance. Editorial staff are defined as staff members who play a role in shaping the journalistic or creative direction of NPR's content, including events. COMPENSATION Hourly Rate: The U.S. based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $46.88 per hour. The hourly rate displayed reflects the rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations. Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR's benefits options. Benefits include access to health and wellness, paid time off, and financial well-being. Plan options include medical, dental, vision, life/ accidental death and dismemberment, long-term disability, short-term disability, and voluntary retirement savings to all eligible NPR employees.
