Position Overview: Highway Engineering Associate

Our client is seeking a Highway Engineering Associate to join their team at the FDOT Corridors Program Office (CPO) in Celebration, FL. This embedded position requires the candidate to report to the office five days per week and contribute to the Moving I-4 Forward program, one of the state's highest-profile infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:




  • Design and develop plans and drawings, including preliminary layout and/or final drawings.



  • Conduct engineering investigations and planning work with a well-defined scope, preparing straightforward reports and working under the review of more experienced professionals.



  • Provide engineering services during construction by reviewing shop drawings for conformance with specifications and preparing progress reports.



  • Observe construction procedures under the guidance of a more experienced professional, evaluating quality control testing results.



  • Research alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.



  • Contribute to the development of specifications, permit applications, and miscellaneous reports.



  • Prepare preliminary estimates for man-hours, costs, and material quantities.



  • Participate in quality control checks to ensure quality standards in all work, including reviewing computations and designs performed by others.



  • Coordinate with other disciplines as required and perform field observations of construction where appropriate.



  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.



Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical discipline with two years of experience post-Bachelor's degree or one year post-Master's degree.



  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification is typically required.



  • Proficiency in various software programs, including:




    • MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, 3D Modeling



    • GEOPAK and Inroads



    • AutoCAD Civil 3D



    • AutoTURN



    • Microsoft Office Suite



    • Technical writing




  • Familiarity with FDOT design criteria, standard plans, and specifications, as well as AASHTO design criteria and MUTCD.



  • Strong interpersonal skills, technical documentation skills, and proficiency with personal computers.
