About the Role The Corporate Counsel position is a junior attorney position that will primarily focus on litigation and disputes including intellectual property disputes, general commercial disputes and product safety and regulation matters. This position requires the ability to take on significant independent responsibilities and involves close work with the attorneys in the legal department, multiple outside counsel, and internal clients across all brands and departments. The ideal candidate is a lawyer with intellectual property and/or commercial litigation experience with great judgment and a willingness to learn new things, who can work both independently and collaboratively on providing legal services to the business. Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys, and work independently with outside counsel and people in the business, on all phases of complex intellectual property, commercial and regulatory litigation, and other disputes including discovery, e-discovery, research and legal holds
- Assist in global enforcement of intellectual property rights
- Oversee online IP enforcement including online marketplaces and social media platforms; manage relationship with vendors and outside counsel; partner with marketing team on enforcement issues
- Assist with offensive and defensive cease and desist demands, including researching and drafting demands and responses; take the lead on many such matters
- Assist with intellectual property clearances of catalogs, product designs, product names and other materials, with significant direct interaction with other members of the legal team, internal clients and outside counsel.
- Assist in product safety recalls and other regulatory matters, including tracking recalls and preparing monthly reports
- Assist with consumer claims with government agencies
- Train, and oversee specific projects performed by, legal interns, temporary paralegals and administrative staff
- Assist attorneys on other general litigation, legal department and corporate matters
Criteria
- B.A. and J.D. required with strong academic credentials
- Minimum of 1-2 years legal experience at a law firm
- Intellectual property and/or litigation experience required
- Regulatory experience a plus
- Proven ability to work within a team, with strong client relationship skills
- Ability to interface professionally with senior management, outside counsel, agencies and courts
- Ability to work independently and assume significant responsibility without a lot of management
- Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills
- Excellent organization skills and high attention to detail; ability to manage many projects with firm deadlines
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Office applications and internet research
- This role requires being onsite in our San Francisco office Monday through Thursday.
