Smith+Nephew Arthroscopic Enabling Technologies division is working on the development of the next generation of medical devices to enable surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery. As we grow, we are seeking a highly motivated Technical Program Manager with a solid background in electrical engineering and proven project management abilities. This role will be a key contributor to the success of the development of medical device hardware, encompassing digital image acquisition and processing, computer vision, and video streaming. What will you be doing?
Technical Strategy and Roadmap:
Prioritize features and initiatives based on technical feasibility, business value, and market demand. Maintain and communicate the project roadmap to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment. Work with other TPMs to support program directors in alignment of expectations, schedules, and resource allocations. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, engineering teams, and suppliers.
Project Management and Execution:
Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies. Effectively schedule and track project progress, proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays or roadblocks. Utilize project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) as appropriate. Gather and synthesize feedback from various stakeholders to inform product decisions. Present product plans, progress, and results to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Technical Leadership and Expertise:
Leverage your electrical engineering knowledge to understand technical requirements, evaluate design trade-offs, and contribute to technical discussions. Collaborate closely with electrical engineers to define specifications, resolve technical challenges, and ensure the feasibility and manufacturability of designs. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in electrical engineering technologies and industry trends. Act as a technical point of contact for product-related electrical engineering inquiries. Participate in technical reviews, as required, to bring a product successfully through commercialization. Uphold the company's quality requirements and design control functions to ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and other regulatory bodies.
People Management and Influence:
Lead and motivate cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Effectively influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members as needed.
What will you need to be successful?
Education:
Experience:
5-7 years of experience in a design environment, leveraging good analytical and problem-solving skills. This includes
Experience in taking at least two products from inception to launch. 2+ years of experience in technical product/program/project management, with a primary focus on products or features involving electrical engineering.
Proven track record of successfully managing and launching technical products. Solid understanding of electrical engineering design process, including embedded board designs and FPGA designs. Excellent project management skills, including experience with scheduling, time management, risk management, and resource allocation. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and influence cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, QA, etc.). Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze data, draw insights, and make data-driven decisions. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with design controls, preferably in the medical device industry. Experience in IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IC 60601-2-18, and IEC 60601-2-2
Experience in a work environment with rapid growth and quick response to schedule changes is desired.
