About the Position

We are looking for someone to join our team of dedicated technicians to help us deliver optimal and humane medical services to the animals in our care. As an Animal Health Triage Technician, you will assist in providing proper medicinal and preventative treatments and appropriate housing for our shelter animals. This position requires the employee in office and or customer facing for all hours worked.

We Require

  • One year of experience treating and handling animals in a veterinary clinic, humane society, or similar animal care facility

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Post-secondary education may substitute for therequiredexperience on a year-for-year basis

  • Candidates must be flexible and able to work all shifts, including starting as early as 5 am and finishing as late as 7 pm, working weekends and holidays. Employees can be assigned to any shift, with any combination of days off determined by the Department's needs

  • Experience as a veterinary technician

  • Completion of a certified curriculum in veterinary technician/assisting

Job Contributions

  • Receive animals into the shelter, ensuring the animal is scanned for identification, information is entered into the database accurately, and an identifying photograph is taken. Maintain detailed and accurate animal medical records

  • Perform vaccine administration and flea and tick preventative application, routine clinical laboratory testing, including SNAP Parvo

  • Administer prescribed medications and boosters and perform treatments on shelter animals

  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain the work area and job-related equipment according to established disease control protocols

  • Survey the shelter population to identify animals in need of medical attention, grooming, or sterilization

  • Provide quality customer service to clients, volunteers, and staff while actively promoting our mission, services, programs, and events

  • Educate adopters on appropriate medical care, including post-operative instructions and annual vaccinations

  • Provide emergency treatment in life-threatening situations to sustain life as directed by staff veterinarians and perform follow-up treatment as prescribed

Working Conditions

  • Work is predominantly performed in an animal shelter with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, animal waste and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and Zoonotic Diseases

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk on all types of surfaces, sometimes slippery and/or uneven and rough, and perform duties that require lifting, bending, and stooping

  • Must be able to lift up to 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly

  • Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware: Radiology equipment, Grooming equipment, Diagnostic tools, Surgical tools, and Sterilization equipment. Software: Chameleon, Outlook. Protective Equipment Required as appropriate (e.g., in isolation ward)
