Nebraska Advocacy and Organizing Intern - Omaha, Nebraska

Pay: $17 per hour
Schedule:
Part-time, 13.2 hours per week

Shift times: Flexible hours Monday-Friday, between 10am and 5pm. Occasional weekends and evenings for attending events.

Location: 3105 North 93rd Street, Omaha, NE 68134

Travel: Within Omaha, 5-10 miles/week.

Job Summary:

Under general supervision of the Advocacy Strategists with the support of the Senior Manager of Public Affairs, the Advocacy and Organizing Intern has responsibilities for building, maintaining, and activating our network of supporters and leaders for the organization in target districts and regions in the state. The Advocacy and Organizing Intern is responsible for tactics including recruiting new supporters, engaging and training volunteers, and participating in phone banking, canvassing, and other volunteer activities. The Advocacy and Organizing Intern will work to carry out grassroots organizing goals and be a part of a dynamic Public Affairs team that builds a sustainable base of support for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska. This internship offers the opportunity to learn and utilize the tactics that community organizers use to develop, plan and execute an end-of-semester event centered on reproductive access in our community. These tactics can include telephone banking, using the VAN (Voter Activation Network) database to find supporters to reach out to, door-to-door screening, social media networks, and similar strategies. Advocacy and Organizing Interns are advocates in implementing our mission of "Advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all." They may perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • An eagerness to learn the ways to effectively engage different communities.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:



  • Execute organizing strategies to support reproductive rights and progressive policies in Nebraska. Tactics could include phone banking, door-to-door canvassing, and more.
  • Shadow coalition meetings and grassroots meetings to make important connections and gain greater understanding as to the impact and reach of Planned Parenthood North Central States/Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska.
  • Participate in departmental meetings as requested.
  • Support and implement plans for advocacy events.
  • Shadow in other areas of Planned Parenthood North Central States, including the Health Education and Health Center, to develop strong organizational knowledge and generate new ideas regarding policy in the affiliate.
  • Identify and support patient advocates, storytellers, and youth on college campuses to participate in advocacy programs and advance advocacy priorities.
  • Assist the Advocacy Strategist with developing campus organizing strategies.
  • Support and promote local Planned Parenthood health centers in coordination with staff.
  • Develop, coordinate, and direct activities for identifying, educating, motivating, and supporting allied organizations and constituencies within the assigned region.
  • Represent Planned Parenthood in Nebraska at events, internal and external task forces, coalitions, workgroups, as approved by the Senior Manager of Public Affairs and Advocacy Strategists.
  • Ensure data and reporting requirements are met promptly and compliantly.
  • Take part in staff development, education on health disparities, anti-racism, and reproductive justice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
