Position Title: Accountant A Location: Gulfport, MS Requisition ID: 2270 Overview function: We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant A to join our team in Gulfport, MS. In this role, you'll provide professional accounting services by maintaining financial records, preparing reports, supporting audits, and contributing to budgeting and cost analysis. This position is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting principles and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key Responsibilities: * Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and reports. * Manage and make entries in the general ledger; guide other accounting staff as needed. * Review and verify ledger entries, ensuring all entries are well-documented. * Act as a liaison between Accounts Payable and Accounting; validate coding and support check processing. * Conduct cost system studies and financial analyses. * Monitor profit status for individual contracts. * Assist with the preparation and review of annual budgets. * Reconcile discrepancies in the general ledger trial balance. * Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance. * Manage and execute timely and accurate month-end closings. Qualifications: * Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Solid understanding of accounting theory and practices. * Familiarity with standard office procedures. * Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data. * Capability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of others. * Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and auditors. Education: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, OR 1 year of accounting experience. Preference: * Considerable experience in clerical accounting functions.
