POSITION TITLE

Scientist, Encapsys

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Scientist, Encapsys is to lead and manage development of complex product solutions for identified customer needs, either independently or part of a larger team, on the lab, pilot plant, and production scales. They must work collaboratively with internal / external customers and cross functional teams to gain customer insights, gather customer needs, and safely develop prototype products.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • New capsule product solutions developed using Six Sigma and other scientific tools.

  • Leadership and management of product development, validation, and scale-up.

  • Safe processes for the handling of raw materials/finished products and production of product solutions.

  • Support of invention disclosures or patent applications.

  • Exposure to relevant industry and patent trending.

  • Serve as primary R&D contact during product validation and scale-up.

  • Develop, implement and support efforts that serve to simplify product design platforms by streamlining raw materials and processes.

  • Recommend and implement changes to existing product line and processes.

  • Interface with internal and external customers to define specifications that meet their needs.

  • Interface with marketing to assist in transition from early phases of the solution development process to building product prototypes.

  • Identify opportunities for product and process improvements.

  • Ensure that activities safely meet all environmental laws and regulations and provide insight to continually reduce our impact on the environment.

  • Identify cost reduction ideas and work to get the ideas resourced and implemented.

  • Coach and mentor junior researchers.

Responsible Care

  1. Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RC-14001) and follow plant procedures to ensure compliance to requirements.

  1. Understand the RC-14001 Significant Aspects of your job and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts.

  1. Minimize waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy while performing job tasks.

  1. Contribute to continuous improvement of the environmental, health, safety, security and Responsible Care performance and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • BS in Chemistry, Engineering, or related scientific field.

  • 5+ years of industry experience in product development/process engineering.

  • Extensive experience in and demonstrates advanced knowledge in an area of science or product technology.

  • Ability to facilitate and drive resolution of complex problems.

  • Ability and proven track record to develop products and technologies.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Six Sigma and Lean principles.

  • Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve problems and make improvements.

  • Ability to facilitate and drive resolution of complex problems.

  • Success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thoughts; expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts.

  • Capable of working in a flexible, often shifting, environment.

  • Business knowledge of cost/benefits analysis, project management, negotiation and strategic and tactical planning.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments, processes and procedures.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

  • Ensure personal safety for self and others.

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED

  • MS or PhD in Chemistry or related field.
