ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Of A UTILITY PERSON

  • Performs daily visual and physical inspection of tires on all company vehicles. Inspects for wear and damage. Measures and records tread depth and air pressure readings.
  • Performs removal and replacement of tires to ensure safe and compliant vehicles.
  • Utilization of vehicle lifts, pneumatic and/or hydraulic operated jacks, impact wrenches, tire bars and other equipment to perform job related tasks.
  • Performs yard and shop clean up as directed by supervisor.
  • Operates service vehicles to perform off-site road repairs as required.
  • Accurately and efficiently completes paperwork and/or computer database entries relating to the work performed, documenting parts and supply usage. Generates repair orders to communicate defects or areas of concerns for follow up and/or corrective action.
  • Performs minor repairs and cleaning of tools and equipment as required. Performs other maintenance related work as required by supervisor or foreman.
  • May operate forklift, sweeper, and other yard equipment as required.
  • Performs all work in accordance to company standards and policies and DOT standards for safety.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in accordance with company policy and federal, state and local requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

  • One year of tire technician experience with heavy vehicles preferred.
  • Waste and recycling industry experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of wheels, fasteners, torque principles for vehicles and proper use of tools and techniques for tire maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices; understanding of potential job hazards.
  • Basic computer programs.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Class B Commercial Drivers' License and medical with no air brake or automatic transmission restrictions required.
