Job Purpose

Aero CFD Engineer II will be responsible for performing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) assessment of racing vehicles and sub-systems. The Aero CFD Engineer II will use wind tunnel and track data to correlate CFD solutions, report results, and advise aero development direction.

Key Accountabilities

Develop, setup, execute and analyze CFD simulations, to direct aerodynamics development activities.

Geometry creation, simplification and 3D grid generation (meshing). When required generate or simplify 3D CAD geometry, to generate 3D mesh for use in CFD analysis and optimization. Determine if geometry is suitable for use as input for CFD

Develop validated CFD methods and process documentation. Develop CFD methods and processes for solving engineering problems with a small team of multi-disciplinary engineers.

Validate new simulation procedures by using physical tests with appropriate instrumentation (strain gauges, accelerometers, material testing). Ensure virtual tools, methodologies and correlation are in place, continuously improving virtual predictive quality of CFD-based analyses. Will require some travel to these tests (wind tunnel and track)

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Bachelors' Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. 3 years of experience with commercial CFD codes. Demonstrated experience and excellence in aerodynamic analysis using CFD. Knowledge in advanced fluid dynamics concepts and problems. Working knowledge of Ansys fluids software (e.g. Fluent, EnSight). Programming skills in MATLAB, Python and Linux scripting. Experience in Linux Cloud Computing HPC environment. Be willing to travel to wind tunnel and track test when necessary.
